2nd flush tub rookie observation - 2nd flush is boomin compared to 1st * 1
    #26648856 - 05/04/20 06:28 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

so I got a very 1st flush out of a very 1st tub from going from spores to space in less than 30 days by using bods unbodified TEK style - all gratitude to bod and pasty and frank and eats and munchausen and all before me for their TEKs.

so the 1st fruits were mostly skinny and puny - max prob 4" tall, mostly quarter-sized tops up to silver dollar sized. but I got a whole quart jar full of em dried and its the very first mycology work Ive ever done, so a guy cant be sad at all about it., rather, it was an outstanding fucking success.

so - to the point -
After chopping down the 1st trees,  did a good substrate soak, then I added some 1" holes a-la frank dial in a monotub like a boss TEK.

the fruits instantly changed, and they are diggin it in there.
I studided previous 2nd flush posts, and the majority of them are how to case and salvage / improve a 2nd flush.

I think I have the opposite issue, it looks like the dunk + polyfil holes is making this flush way better - fruits are thicker/taller/larger etc.

I totally get that the substrate dunk probably mitigated any dry substrate issue that may have been present during the 1st flush, but I propose that in some peoples environments, a polyfiled hole tub may produce better versus an unmodified tub by providing the FAE needed, yet preserving the RH at surface level.

I'm not sure how to test and prove this out though, other than mixing a no hole tub and a modified hole tub at the same time with the same variety, and watching them. and that doesnt seem like a good control sample to me, too many variables - did u use a clone, did u use same amount of grain/substrate/water content/etc between tubs, etc..

anyone else added polyfil holes to a tub mid flight? how did it go?

They generally get bigger each flush also.

These are the same sub three different flushes.

The small bruised ones in the hand are flush 1 then middle is 2 and biggest is 4 I think.

preciate the comment. I could not tell from previous posts if that is the expected / the norm, to get continually larger fruits the more cycles it goes - do you have any opinion on that?

when I searched for it, it seemed like most people were trying to salvage or maximize additional flushes with re-casing coir/poo/verm/etc. and I dont find myself in that condition at all.

They almost always get bigger in later flushes.

Ime it depends on the first flush. I’ve had some cultures that will put out 500 wet the first flush and then have a small second flush and be done.

Then ive had others that’ll put out 220 first flush, 200 second, 160 third 100 fourth.

It seems to all even out it’s just a matter of how long it takes to get the weight grown out.
