Buying a dehydrator

Hi everyone!
I'm considering buying a dehydrator, since I've read that fan drying+desiccant results in potency loss due to the amount of time it takes to get them cracker dry.
Do you think a 250w dehydrator that goes up to 70ΒΊC is enough?
Also, is there really a noticeable difference in potency loss between the two drying methods?
Thank you

Yes 70Β°c/160Β°f is what vast majority of people are using.
A proper/traditional dehydrator is undoubtably superior to any other method.

As long as there exposed to oxygen they will continue to loose potency. Not sure what wattage mine is but it's max is 70c, dries fruits in 12h a little longer if there big ones.
I never noticed much difference from my first grows using fan and desiccant, too using a Dehydrator now.
The goal is to get them bone dry in little time as possible then seal them away from oxygen.

Just curious, what made you switch to a dehydrator if you didn't notice any potency loss from fan drying?

It wasn't about the potency, it's much easyer just to whack shrooms onto the trays and turn the contraption on makes life easy ha. Seeing as I have one, recently started drying all sorts of fruits though... Dried sliced bannans mmmm better snack than a packet of crisps :P

Ah I see, makes sense lol I will probably get it to make it easier.
Yeah, those snacks are nice, but I prefer crisps haha

Nutriware aroma on amazon. Best 230 you can spend( Its a rear fan and heat style with vertical SS trays, a digital timer and temperature controls.
Its like an Excalibur but over $100 CHEAPER.
I have 4 and jam them full af and set to max temp [158f] for up to 10 hours. Crispier than a ritz.
Its huge tho so be prepared to lose some space.

Don't spend a shit ton of money on your first dehydrator. Buy a cheap one from Aldi or 2nd hand.

My cheap Aldi dehydrator has a timer. I put the trays on and let it run. Bt people here are suggesting dehydrators that cost 5x as much for a person who doesn't plan to grow enormous amounts of mushrooms.

im all about industrial blowers and large trays. once they hit semi dry, i throw em in sealed totes with dessicants. total dryness in about a week.
ive never seen a dessicator that can handle a decent crop. i think they are a waste of money.
as far as potentcy? ive had no issues.

Dessicators are a waste of money for mushrooms anyways. Dehydrator will get you through a lot more volume in way less time.

that would depend on definition of volume. ive seen crops on here that would bury a standard dehydrator.

My dehydrator was Β£40, 6 trays with adjustable height for each shelf for bigger fruits, 48 hour timer on it and temp control up to 70 Celsius. Pretty good for its price, chews through electric mind.

Yeah, but at that point you go for multiple dehydrators/bigger dehydrator or you put some in the fridge in the meantime. Standard dessicators have way less volume at way bigger price.

Hey everyone!
Thanks a lot for all the replies and advice.
Like @poisoned said, I don't intend to grow big amounts and probably don't even need the dehydrator, but it would make things easier and that's why I will get one.
Therefore, I'll get something in the 30-50β¬ range. Unfortunately the ones I could find on Amazon for that price don't have a timer, but I prefer to spend less and just keep an eye on the drying process instead of spending over 50β¬.
I'll keep looking if I can find one with a timer and if not, I'll just take a 30-40β¬ one

Buying a dehydrator.. Keep It simple.. No need for bells and whistles..
Stay away from Digital displays.

Saw a similar one on Amazon and almost got that one, but for a little more money (10β¬) I saw the one I purchased which comes with a timer.
What I'm not sure about is if it has a fan but it probably does since they talk about "air circulation" in the description.
Would it be a problem if it doesn't have a fan?

Lol, my bad. I saw an old post where people reccomended to "make sure that the dehydrator has a fan" and I got worried that I may have bought the wrong one.
Thank you!
