Almost like a selective shut down to only allow big business to operate while small businesses get shafted.
Maybe from a certain perspective but I work for a small local business and we limit our customers at once and business is booming

Here in Holland people are like "fuck this restrictions stuff I'm gonna do what I like no matter what." so, they are "Corona Tired" and are about to break quarantine. At the same time the government is OPENING THE SCHOOLS to use the children of the nation as guinea pigs to see if its safe for the adults to get out "because experts say kids dont get sick from it" -- complete bullshit that can be refuted by anyone who followed this thread, the body of knowledge herein.
So, what can I do?
I briefly resurfaced to pack my food storages to the brim with healthy intermediate perishables (I have the longterms covered) and get ready for a long dive of isolation, while the idiots and assholes of the nation play Darwinian roulette with themselves and the people around them.
Its May, the birds are building nests, people want to get out there and get laid, and a good number of them will get laid -- get laid on their stomach, intubated and on monitors and IV drips in a drug induced coma on the COVID wards, drooling virus infested lung slimes into the tubes trying to keep them alive
Don't let that be you, and don't get it and transmit it to who knows how many of your close ones.
We must move from the ME paradigm to the WE paradigm.
Dont play with the lives of others by risking casualy getting infected.
Medically speaking there is a war on, and the war has just begun. Its fought in our home towns and its a World war.
We must overcome this by joining forces to defeat it, as a species, and then restart society in a better, more sustainable way for the future.

Just video chatted with my aunt who has covid (diagnosed 5 days ago - and started feeling ill a week before that). She’s on a cpap type breathing apparatus and has IV fluids and drugs and that device helping her to stay borderline stable. She has multiple comorbidities. Been back and forth in terms of how coherent and stable she is, but so far it’s about as good as could be expected, if not better - just hope she’s kept comfortable and can rest with ease while hospitalized.
Imagine the places in the world that don’t have the luxuries of tech and pros and medicine like we do in the states and other places... heart goes out to the world, that’s a huge chunk of the planets peoples.
Be safe, be smart people !

Trump is pushing to give businesses that reopen a “liability shield” against legal action by workers or customers who get infected by the virus.
This week, he announced he would use the Defense Production Act to force meat-processing plants to remain open, despite high rates of Covid-19 infections and deaths among meatpackers.
“We’re going to sign an executive order today, I believe, and that’ll solve any liability problems,” Trump said.
The Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, insists that proposed legislation giving state and local governments funding they desperately need must include legal immunity for corporations that cause workers or consumers to become infected.
“We have a red line on liability,” McConnell said. “It won’t pass the Senate without it.”

The range was busy as fuck yesterday. No masks. Underlying understanding that there's no distancing there. People even were doing handshakes
Downtown the hipster grocery store has a line down the road. The regular grocery lets something like 100 or 150 people in. No line.
So pretty much all the places that already sucked ass are still full of the snitch type annoying as fuck people. And all the places that are cool as still cool

Here is a part of my COVID prep:

As you see a book closet got its books cleared out and used as a food storage closet. The plastic milk containers appropriated to 0.625 gallon storage containers, the white ones hold whey protein, the orange ones, red lentils. Inbetween a tray of tuna, instant mashed potato, milk powder, lots of tomato concentrate and sugar/additive free applesauce portions.
White and blue vats on the left are rice. Yeah, Basmati rice is clearly my staple.
On the right, 4 8 gallon vats, a 4 gallon vat and a tall freezer I got in january for the purpose of the COVID prep. Freezer's got lots of fish, meat and vegs especially, the 4gal vat holds whole egg powder, the 4 vats of 8 gal are for oatmeal, freeze dried vegetable mix and lentils.
This is just a part of the prep, but shows what you can do on just a small floorspace.

In the food industry, raw materials are moved in foordgrade polypropylene vats of various sizes. If you go looking through a search engine, chances are you'll find merchants in your area who sell either second hand cleaned ones or brand new ones.
It doesn't have to be expensive, those cool 8 gallon vats I got 4 by the freezer were about $8 each. They will last a lifetime if kept out of direct sunlight.
Here in Holland its often second hand merchants that run a business of them on the side.
Amazon is not a good place, look for local businesses, they may have amazing deal and some of them might be so nearby that you can pick them up instead of mailorder them.
I picked up 6x 20ltr/5.25 foodgrade jerrycans, drinking water grade, brand new, shipping included, for less than $60. They'd fit your purpose and you'd have 6 for 60 instead of 1 for 80.
Make sure they are foodgrade though, you dont want BPA and phtalates leaching into your food n drink.

I bought totes and filled them because my cupboards ran out of space.i think they're 135L each, and they're stuffed full. I've got like 60kg of rice, 15-20kg of flour, a couple lbs of powered mashed potatoes, probably 10-15kg of oatmeal, tons of canned beans and peas and shit. I have so much food right now that if we needed to leave I'd have to make an extra trip in the car just for the food.

This website has some interesting simulations to play around with: https://ncase.me/covid-19/
Quote:
Teams of epidemiologists and policymakers (left, right, and multi-partisan) have come to a consensus on how to beat COVID-19, while protecting our lives and liberties.
Here's the rough idea, with some (less-consensus) backup plans:

So what does this mean for YOU, right now?
For everyone: Respect the lockdown so we can get out of Phase I asap. Keep washing those hands. Make your own masks. Download a privacy-protecting contact tracing app when those are available next month. Stay healthy, physically & mentally! And write your local policymaker to get off their butt and...
For policymakers: Make laws to support folks who have to self-isolate/quarantine. Hire more manual contact tracers, supported by privacy-protecting contact tracing apps. Direct more funds into the stuff we should be building, like...
For builders: Build tests. Build ventilators. Build personal protective equipment for hospitals. Build tests. Build masks. Build apps. Build antivirals, prophylactics, and other treatments that aren't vaccines. Build vaccines. Build tests. Build tests. Build tests. Build hope.
Don't downplay fear to build up hope. Our fear should team up with our hope, like the inventors of airplanes & parachutes. Preparing for horrible futures is how we create a hopeful future.

Not really. Fear is a defense mechanism that helps us protect ourselves.

It almost seems like home depot might be essential for plumbing leaks or any other emergency house maintenance.

Contractors. They need to get the materials somewhere. They're still allowed to finish projects and do any work involving essential structures.

Does anyone else play Plague, Inc? There's some entertaining simulators on there. Some are designed to be more realistic while others are designed to be apocalyptic.
