Hi folks, newbie here to the forum. Apart from online reading I’m completely new to hunting. Went out this morning to parklands in a hilly/bushy suburb of N.E Melbourne and found what you can see in the photos. Not 100% sure if P subs but hopeful. Would be grateful for some expert identification. Can provide more photos if needed. Thanks in advance!
* Habitat: in garden beds. Mostly eucalyptus and unidentified medium sized shrub/bushes. Growing from woodchips/dead leaves and branches.
* Location: N.E Melbourne suburban parkland.
*Cap: See photos. Mostly dark caramel with a lighter milky coffee brown ring before picking, 12 hour later they’ve become consistent milky coffee brown. Bruising around rim. 2-5cm diameter. It was raining so felt moist yet rubbery, not slimy.
* Gills: appear close together with bruising. Milky coffee brown in colour. Small appear to attach to stem, larger appear detached.
* Stem: firm yet rubbery and hollow, appear fibrous, 2mm-1cm, 1.5-4cm long (measured after cut).
* Spore print colour: see photo
* Scent of the mushroom: sorry I have a very poor sense of smell – smells like damp mushroom too me. Nothing distinctive/obvious.
* Colour that the mushroom bruises when damaged: black with tinges of “blue”

Yes, they are indeed P. subaeruginosa.
Good pictures, too!
Perhaps you should eat a handful and have a nice walk around the Botanical Gardens.
Welcome to the Shroomery.

Fantastic.. Thanks for confirming!
Photos were taken off my phone, I was surprised they actually came out ok.
I have a couple more shots of a "troop" (i think that's what you call it) of very similar looking mushrooms, but I didn't touch them based on my understanding P subs do not tend to grow like that (correct me if I'm wrong), and also they were still very small.
Can I post them up in this same post fro an ID or should I start a new one?
