Whee! More pictures to look forward to!
    #2663822 - 05/11/04 03:12 PM (19 years, 10 months ago)

I'm sure that at the very least we can expect CNN and MSNBC to post the pictures and cover these atrocities 24/7 for the next two weeks to make sure everyone has the proper perspective... the photos will be everywhere, in a few hours, just wait... (sound of crickets chirping)

Sadly, you'd be waiting a very long time.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

He did include a link to an article about Hamas troops displaying the body parts of people they claim were Israeli soldiers...

In any case, nobody asked me, but I think I'll volenteer anyway...

Nobody here thinks terrorists are good. Nobody here likes Saddam Hussain, or the Saudi royal family, or Kim Jong Ill, or any other scum-sucking dictator.
If you do, please correct me...

The torture of Iraqi civilians and military personell by American soldiers was not nearly as bad as what happed under Saddam Hussain. Nobody's saying it is.
If someone does, please speak up...

However, we are the ones doing the torturing here, and that is different.
We claim to be different than they are, to be on a humanitarian mission. In that context, what happened at Abu Gharaib is very diturbing.

It's obvious that the conservatives that run the media want to hide this to further their conservative, anti-Israel agenda.

I was just watching the national news - not really sure which of the three main networks, or what show.
The top two stories were the one pinky linked here and the american citizen beheaded by al-Qaeda in Iraq.

And will the cable news channels latch onto this in a feeding frenzy? Will every newscast and the front page of every paper for the next week and a half contain that photo and others like it?

Will Arafat be besieged with demands for an investigation? Will Arafat apologize to the world? Will the resignation of the head of the Al Aqsa Martyr's Brigade be demanded? By anyone?

Pinky I am sorry to repeat this to you, you seem quite intelligent and able to grasp concepts, yet you are missing one here that I've listed numerous times. It's ALWAYS the fault of the US. If some arabs cut off a noncombatants head, it's our fault. The Arab nations have no blame at all. If Israel and the US weren't being so oppressive (like feeding the Iraqi's and other such means of oppression and genocide), then the Arab world would give us a big group hug and stop being so violent like we force them to

you've really lost it pinky

and why should they? has it occured to you that maybe the American press is more interested in the actions of American troops that has greater implications for the American occupation of Iraq?

do you really honestly think this picture is as newsworthy to the American people as those pictures of American prison guards torturing Iraqis?

NOBODY'S SAYING THIS, except conservatives who don't understand why we would even bring up the terrorists stated reasons for declaring war on the US.

We know terrorists are scum. We don't like dictators, particularly ones that kill their own people and threaten their neighbors.

What we didn't know is that military inteligence in Iraq was encouraging military police to "soften up" Iraqis for interrogation, in a prison that housed mixed civilian and military prisoners.

Terrorists killing sombody doens't have many implications for US policy that haven't already been hashed out; American soldiers killing and torturing thier prisoners does.

We claim to be better; we hold ourselves to a higher standard; the world is watching; what more do you need?

I think liberals are somewhat racist by the fact that they expect so much less from Arabs. It's like Arabs can't help being terrorists and militants so let's ignore what they do and instead criticize ourselves. I say they aught to be held to the same standards as we are. If we take the high road we should be critical of ourselves for screwing up, but that doesn't mean terrorists should be let off the hook because they play dirty and don't hold the same rules of civility.

What do we do with terrorists again?

Oh, that's right - we kill them. Or make them enter politics.

In any case, we're a democracy. We want the world to be a certain way. Peace, freedom, prosperity, all that. We're leaders. We should set an example for how things should be.

There's nothing wrong with Arabs, as such - their governments and other institutions suck ass, though.

I wouldn't argue with that. I just say our criticism should not be so one-sided that it makes us look like the bad guy. Everybody is a hypocrit in someway, we've all got to realize that. But we should not forget that we still are better than terrorists. We should not ignore their despicable acts because they don't hold themselves to the same standards as we do. People need to put it into perspective.

This is a good point. Hopefully, if we clean up our mess promptly and publicly, even the Arab street will hold some perspective.

Baby_Hitler writes:

Is Arafat the leader of the Palestineans? No? Then how come he's the one who gets invited to all these Camp David meetings and Oslo proposals and stuff? Is it because he's so photogenic?

Hmmm, did this happen in Israel, or in an illegal settlement?

Depends on how you define an "illegal" settlement. It happened in Israel, yes.

The Palestineans claim that Israel has no right to the land they acquired in 1967. Of course, they also claim Israel has no right to the land they were given in 1948, either. What's your point?

Since when is waving body parts around not something to apologize for?
