PF Tek - BRF Cakes - Fruiting chamber questions.
    #26647416 - 05/04/20 03:56 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Hello!

I am doing my second grow. the first was successful. But I feel i could have done better!

My 1/2 pint jars are inoculated and doing well.

I have a large clear tub with a lot of holes drilled out and plan to use perlite to keep the moisture up (following the video "Getting started with BRF cakes by Roadkill")

I read at some point there was a Tek that helped keeps the cakes moist by placing them on a jar lid instead of just tinfoil. I cant find the post for that.

I also read that you need to put the tub in darkness (like a closet) for 12 hours and then ambient light for 12 hours. Is this correct?

Last time I put the tub by the window with a sheer curtain, does it have to be natural light or is the light from lamps, etc ok?

Also last time I had a tough time measuring the humidity of the tub, I have an analog hygrometer but read its not accurate if left inside so this was a bit a of pain.

Thanks for the help!!

Happy growing

My personal recommendation is not to make a shotgun fc and rather, just put holes into the bottom of a tub you wish to use as an fc.

Wrap your jar lids in tinfoil and place the cake into the 'cake bowl', this way you can bottom feed the cakes water!

In my experience, placing the fc anywhere is just fine, when I pf tek'd I just had it sat upon some drawers and the day light cycle provided all the light it required.

Almost any light and any amount will do. 12/12 I believe is generally considered optimal but AFAIK the source of the light doesn't matter too much.

Forget about humidity; you wont be able to accurately measure it you'll just need to learn to gauge it yourself. For example, the sides of the fc as im sure you know needs to have as many tiny water droplets as possible, the more water surface area exposed in the tub means the most amount of water being evaporated adding to the RH. When I felt my fc wasn't as humid as it should be (or to combat that myc fuzz) I grab a couple damp kitchen towels and hang them up inside the fc or drape them down on the side inside. (one sheet does plenty

Hope this grow is even more successful than the last! I'd like to finish by urging you to entertain the thought of agar work if this is something you'll continue to pursue. I very recently began agar having only pf tek'd in the past and I can tell you beyond all certainty it is very easy and increases your noc' power one million fold in comparison to ms syringes. Good Luck
