Tricholoma Terreum ?
    #26647340 - 05/04/20 01:38 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

I've had them before from a trusted friend who runs a business picking wild edible mushrooms for wholesale.

They were delish.

However after picking my own and looking them up, I just wanna double check.

I've actually only ever seen these, and none that look much like the look alikes Google says people confuse them for.

Mostly just after general opinions and if these look ok to eat.

Found under pine.
Caps have a velvety feel.
Gills n stem white.
Haven't done spore print :/

They surely look like a species of Tricholoma, and might very well be T. terreum.

There are a few points, however, that you should keep in mind. Firstly, this genus is
not easy to identify to species unless you are experienced with them, and even then
they might pose some challenge. Secondly, if they are indeed what you hope, they are
suspected of containing toxins that apparently might be harmful in certain amounts
and lead to irreparable kidney damage over time.

You can read the following description, and also the "culinary notes":

https://www.first-nature.com/fungi/tricholoma-terreum.php

Personally, I would not eat these even if they are T. terreum.

If you are very keen to try them, you should contact your friend who apparently
knows them well, and ask for assistance in hands-on identification and preparation.
