Is this contamination or just non-rhyzomorphic mycellium?

Thanks for any help. Pretty straight forward question.
I'm very new to agar. Will probably wait for better plate to transfer from but I'm still trying to learn to identify.

looks kinda sus to me but iβm not an expert on agar contams. how did you inoculate the plate? even tomentose growth will keep a radial pattern

Inoculated from a fully colonized bag of grain (oats). Took the cleanest sample of myc. I could get on the tip of a sterile scalpel knowing my odds were bad. Just wanted to practice with agar.
Did a clone from tissue today from a glorious fruit with better technique, higher level of confidence and much better agar formulation! I'm hoping for much more clarity and strong rhyzomorphic growth from today's work to move to T1 soon.

just so you know, thereβs nothing wrong with tomentose growth! i think people just tend to prefer rhizomorphic mycelium bc itβs more aesthetically pleasing & easier to see sectoring & all that jazz
that makes more sense as to why the growth looks all over the place on that plate. you could probably still clean it up with some transfers just to work on technique. glad to hear the clone went well!!

Yes, I was thinking those deep gaps leaf-like gaps between the strains don't look right. Also, it looks a little gooey (bac), but that may the resolution/exposure of the picture.
Will probably know a lot more in a couple days.

Itβs hard to tell, but good chance itβs at least partially contaminated.
I have had similar looking healthy plates but mostly when I used less agar so it was soft and the myc grew inside it instead of on top.

Interesting responses! Makes me feel better that the answer is not exactly clear cut.
Since my goal is to isolate, I'm hopeful to get a plate that is more straight forward and obvious. Also, seems isolating from a fruit tissue is a pretty significant short cut when the goal is uniformity in the fruiting chamber.
Grateful for this community! I'll post photos of the new clone plates in a few days!
Cheers All!

cloning is a good way to get more consistent genetics. best of luck in isolating!! it seems like a very long process
