Not really. If you have your bulk sub at field capacity, you myc will get enough water from it.

I used to dunk my grains before spawning like that a long time ago. It won't hurt anything, but like it was said above if your substrate is at field capacity there is enough water.
I haven't done that in years.

Maybe I'm thinking too straight forward, but wouldn't mycelium be washed off when soaking the grains before spawning?

Most of the myc is inside the grain. It's also the myc that matters.

I am about to do it with one of my jars. I found some months old grain jars that were sterilized, but never inoculated. I refilled them with fresh grain, but I guess I missed one. It colonized fine, but I think I will give it a soak before spawning.
