Best tek for fruiting room?
    #26644238 - 05/02/20 05:28 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Say you have a room that's 3x3m where you can keep RH and FAE optimal.

What would be your preferred method of fruiting? πŸ€”

Trays, logs, cakes, tubs, blocks(with straw, coir, poo, straight grain etc) and the list of possibilities goes on πŸ€”

Any reasoning as to which tub size is best?

I've noticed with PF that it Colonize a lot faster in thinner cakes for some reason (yes even taking account for weight, length to center etc) my Pyrex dish colonized just as fast as my jar, the jars are slightly taller, but the volume of the dishes greatly exceeds them.

I think maybe water drainage has a lot to do with it, seems top "of whatever" dries out a little more and slows growth πŸ€”

I was thinking "bed rollers", the tubs made for sliding under your bed, 10x20" or so with 4" heightπŸ€”?

Or a fuck load of smaller "Tupperware sized" trays?

I dont think tub size matters that much. It's like saying what size car should a person get. Well, what are they going to be doing with it? For me, shoeboxes are good so I can spread my eggs into several baskets. On the other hand, it seems that yields per m2 of space may be improved with larger boxes.

Whatever your goal is; yields, caution, speed, space, personal maintenance time; different sizes and setups will have different advantages. Also remember that my setup at my humidity and temp where I live, may not be the best for your setup at your humidity and temp. So experiment.

IMO shoeboxes, at least until you feel confident. I like the ones that are a buck at walmart. If you put 6 jars into one mono and one jar was bad, you could lose the whole tub. If you put 6 jars in 6 shoe boxes and 5 were bad, well you still have one tub growing.

I like shoe boxes too. Sometimes you have a little failure and sometimes you have a lot. Failure in shoe boxes takes minutes to clean up for next time. In a monotube it's a pain. Once you have several shoeboxes going successful, you will be very happy.

As the poster above me said, isolate your failures, don't consolidate them.

I do have a shoebox going now. Kind of playing around with it while I wait for the fruiting room to be finished.

I've always dumped "whatever" if I was in doubt πŸ‘Œ got a new bed going for the purpose πŸ‘ actually got quite a bit of shroom from an outdoor bed where I discarded PF cakes back when I got into the hobby πŸ‘Œ

Those plastic shoe boxes also stack nice, while full or empty πŸ‘Œ
The larger bed rollers are more of a hassle to clean etc as you mentioned πŸ€”

If you have a whole 9x9ft room then sure a car is a car but 56-66qt tubs make more sense because otherwise you'll be making 100s of shoe boxes to fill that space. Listen to someone who's been there before.

Where as 12 56-66qt tubs on a standard 5 tier shelving unit will likely reach your ceiling. Now consider how many shoeboxes would fill the same space. Easy choice for me.

I agree with the others, shelves, 6500k linkable lights, heater/ac on a controller/sensor.  I have two HVAC registers in my space putting in fresh air, and one return register removing air - I'd prefer to have these than to have a totally sealer room. Otherwise simple as tubs and shelves. Light timer, maybe a humidifier. Don't forget a table for harvesting, and I also have a small HEPA fan I'll leave on incrementally in addition to cleaning regularly.

But if you're in a hurry, and really got to go
If you're in a hurry, might have to find out slow
That it's one thing to try and another to fly
You get there quicker just a step at a time
It's one thing to bark, another to bite
The show ain't over till you pack up at night

Yeah, I was looking at my smallest fruiting chamber, and comparing that to a straw log volume wise I thought to my self, couldn't I just spawn bags of grain to coir and make a giant fruiting block πŸ˜‚πŸ€”?

During the summer I can also get as much manure as I can fit in the garage from the farm next door πŸ€”

Yeah. Personally I'd stick with coir if you're scaling up and not rolling steady.

If anyone can show me anywhere close to a 9x9 room using shoeboxes please link me.

Like you said, volume, shoeboxes are fine for low volume, once you have an entire room it's not comparable to me.

Good luck hope you'll keep us updated.
