Today was a busy hunting day! I came across 4 other people hunting today in the park I've been collecting from. I might have to find some quieter parks!

Nah only got about a 3rd, just in case I couldn’t make it back before they go bad. How long do they usually take to mature ? And do the premature ones still got for potency?

Thanks mate! The house I was at had a playground with tan bark, lots of moist leaves and bark etc, and horse manure, was convinced I’d found some when I came across a patch of 3, then looked forward a metre and my jaw dropped when I saw how many were there

Hey y'all. Brand new to mushroom hunting (I've posted up an ID request thread for a couple I found today but am not to confident about) but I've read through the various guides and advice posted earlier in the thread and I'm fairly confident I'll find some eventually.
One question I did have... with the covid restrictions in place the area I was thinking of looking is chokkas full of people walking, running, and riding bikes, and I'm kinda concerned that some suss idiot rummaging through the bushes is going to stand out like a sore thumb.
Any tips on how to look a bit less like you're collecting drugs?

People don't necessarily care. They're minding their own business if they are exercising and mushroom identification is not a crime. Just be confident and explain you are collecting specimens for scientific observation if questioned.

Yessss, nice finds people!
Today was certainly the day for it. Bumped into a number of fellow foragers; had a chat to some new to the hunt about ID'ing and general picking etiquette and returned to see they had totally raped a patch of beautiful pins we had left which was sad to see
Besides that it was a really beautiful (and wet) day out in nature finding a number of new spots. My girl seems to have the gift and is simply a magnet for subs. It was such a fruitful hunt we decided to finally invest in a dehydrator on the way home, can finally be done with trays of desiccant which I'm stoked about.
Took the camera out again today and was able to get some nice snaps, check em out;

what a big juicy boy

pins in the pine

mature subs hiding in the leaves

my favourite pick of the day

they call me caramellooo, I go with the flow

Big love to all the foraging friends! Don't forget to respect the patch

I can't recommend this enough. I've got mine running right now. 2 hours and they turn to mushroom chips. Perfect for freezing.
In other news, I found a third patch in my own garden today. Am definitely thanking the universe right now. These are the pins still popping up in the main patch though.

I used to take my camera out with me. I bumped into another group hunting for mushrooms one day and it wasn't until I left to continue my hunting they realised I was out hunting.

Stayed a bit more local this morning, checking out areas the council had mulched. Still no joy but it's interesting seeing what's out there. I've never really noticed before how many there are.

I'm still very new at this but my impression was that the mulched areas still looked quite dry even though we've had a bit or rain lately, so maybe they're spots that will produce later in the season.
I was going to ask if they grow under casuarina trees because there's a lot that have been planted around here, but I think a photo posted above has answered that for me.

Nioocceeee!! Looking good Nickoloxious. Went out for my first stomp of the season this morning, it’s amazing what a walk in the bush can do for your wellbeing.

Today was a good day, found about 1kg wet left a bunch more and got caught by multiple people but that’s half the fun.
