Still air box VS. Glovebox.

Per the advice of a mushroom Bible that I purchased, I had been using a glove box to work with agar and grain. I was having continued issues with contaminated grain and agar and was getting frustrated. Per the advice of someone on the Shroomery, I ripped the gloves off of the box and just use it as a still airbox, cleaning my hands with alcohol before working. I used to do about 30 agar plates and would lose 5-10 per batch.
I just did a small (10 plate) batch and had no contamination. I think benefit from the speed and ease of work that a SAB allows outweighs the benefit of having a supposedly sterile environment in a glovebox.
Is this a common experience or was I just doing something wrong with the glove box?

sab wins every single time glove boxes create a vacuum and air currents with every move you make. to b honest im shocked you had that rate of contams with the glove box. in all reality it should have been higher lol. a sab is the best choice other than a flow hood.

No one's recommended a glove box in over 20 years. Books on cultivation are absolutely garbage.

I hear you. Some things in the book just don’t make sense, it’s like they never tried some of the methods. It’s mentally easier to read a book that walks you through step by step than stringing a dozen teks together, but if I only had the book and this site didn’t exist I’d have given up a long time ago.

I had the hardest time getting LC out of a jar with a syringe because of vacuum shit. I’m sure it would still be frustrating in a SAB but it was so frustrating it made me want to cry in a glovebox.

Vacuums are a bitch. I didn’t have a syringe filter to vent mine so I ended up packing a syringe with polyfill and pcing it, then taking the plunger out and popping the needle into the lc while in the SAB. Sucks in a shitload of air but between the poly and SAB it worked out fine.

I definitely appreciate the hell out of the site.
The reason I liked the idea of books was that it’s nice to have something in my hands instead of squinting at my smartphone, I like dog earring pages, etc. the contents of the books were the problem.
