If you are pouring agar from a hot ass bottle inside an SAB into a stack of petri dishes and you spill some down the side are they all trash?
Agar makes me want to commit suicide.

sometimes it happens. I've never had any problems with a little drop on the side.

I've poured onto a lid before thinking I had it by the lid when I lifted it. Too messy to keep the ones below it. A little spill or like a drop will gel up and fall/clean off pretty easily.
Really depends on the amount of mess I suppose.

You think when it cools down and I go back in there to inoculate I should take some alcohol on a paper towel and try and clean them off on the outside?

Sure why not or just a paper towel. Whatever you want tho.
Youre just trying to get enough myc growth to transfer out again anyway right?
You'll get plenty of new opportunities to get your pour game tightened up.
Just take your time. It's the thing you should overthink the least if anything. (Pouring liquid into Petris)

Yea I find 130f-135 to be ideal if doing over 10 plates from a single bottle.
Less than that it'll get under 120 too quickly towards the end then you're pouring clumps. For some off reason myc doesn't like the clumps lol

I put my sous vide to 123f. I get 20-25 poured at that temp from one media bottle

I dunno guys, it solidifies at like 105-108 typically. I pour at 112 to avoid condensate and can rip through 20 to empty a 500 ml bottle before gelling.

i pour pretty hot because i do 40-50 plates per 500ml bottle and pour 1l at a time, usually start around 60c
what kind of bottle are you using? when it starts to gel up on the neck inside the bottle it can be a little tricky to get a clean pour since it starts dripping
i personally put plates in big ziplocs when done, then when i use them i wrap in parafilm and place each plate inside a ziploc sandwich bag
this should help limit and contain any contams that grow in agar you spilled on the outside
why does agar make you want to kill yourself? agar makes me want to dance, i do a fuckton of it
i detail most of my process in my sig if you are curious about any of that
