I went hiking today and found a new morel spot.

Those were found near the shore of this lake. Lake Cle Elum.

I have many more photos but as usual I've maxed out my 400k after three high res shots.

Nice finds, glad they're still up! Is that near the spot where we were driving around, looks like it? Very beautiful, looks like you enjoyed yourself.

Stymee, you lucky bastid. I missed the morel season down here. For some reason I thought it was towards the end of April. It's the end of March for me (doh!). I found a total of 13 tiny morels this season(from 4" to 1"). It was the suck.
One good thing about that... when morel season ends, weilii season begins... Wewt!

These pictures are too cool. I've been trying to find a site that will answer my shroom questions. I will do my best to be return the favor. My question is... How to pick morels without killing the group. How big should they be? I's there a technique?

Just pick them. That's the technique. It's a good idea to trim the base of the stem with a knife after picking to remove the dirt, sand, or mud sticking to it. That way there's less work to clen them when you get home.
Mushrooms are fruits, like apples on an apple tree. It doesn't hurt an apple tree when you pick the apples, neither does it hurt the fungus when you pick the mushrooms.
The thing to avoid doing is damaging the habitat. If you find some mushrooms growing from a log and you destroy the log, then you've also destroyed the fungus that was living in the log. If you dig up the area where some mushrooms are growing with a shovel, you will probably damage the fungus.
Happy mushrooming!

Basically as toxic just said, but i try not to stump the hell outa the area i find them in. Seems the less traffic in the area the better they grow back, which is always a plus, so you can go back to the same spot multiple times in one season. Happy huntin!
