Cakes not pinning 1

Hi guys,
This is my second experience growing mushrooms, the first time I used a growbox and thanks to all the info found here, it went excellently. I'm now trying to make it more personal and using brf-cakes. Although I had some problems getting the thing completely colonized (took longer than indicated), I have not set up everything in the shotgun box. Got a problem though, it has been over one week and nothing is pinning. I mist them everyday 3x hitting the walls of the box with my spray bottle but also letting a thin mist fall on my cakes by spraying it in the air from afar. How do they look to you bros?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Did you give the cakes a week for consoldation? It could be going thru that right now.
It typically takes about 1-2 weeks to grow pins. The cakes could be right on that verge of pinning. Can you provide a close up of the cakes?
Also, Ive found that extra inches of perlite in the SGFC helps with fruiting.

they will pin when they r ready. other than waiting til they are ready id just move the cakes as close together as possible. that could be a problem also. you dont really want a huge chamber for only a cpl cakes. a chamber that big should be packed with as many cakes as you can fit in it to really have the best environmental conditions possible

Thanks for the feedback guys, my cakes are sparse cause I messed up 3 out of 6. But I'm positive, I'm still experimenting!
I'm sure they had the time to consolidate btw, but the perlite observation is on point, I'm not using much as you can see here, will definitely use more next time. Is perlite recyclable for the next time I make a shotgun box btw or should I chuck it when I'm done harvesting? Here is the closeup too.

They look a bit dry but are about to pin.
Id recommend adding more wet perlite. U should see faster pinning.

I always reuse perlite you can bake it in the oven to sterilize it after a while, just soak it before use and give it a mist when you mist the FC. I personally never liked shotgun FCs because I found them to dry out too quickly, I either dubtub an unmodified tub or just a hole each end of the side face, holes on the bottom then lid on or flipped. Definitely want to try and do as many cakes as you can fit for next time though!

Thanks guys, I didn't even know I had to make perlite wet, as it wasn't stated on the guide I used. Useful to know. Next time I will also look into other methods, I do have holes on the bottom though!
To brought good luck btw, first pin came out! Imy so happy.
Will keep you posted.

Yeah no need to bake it. Just rinse out of the bag and load into the chamber.

Yes sterilizing it in the oven is for reusing perlite, so once its been going for a long time and you want to 'clean' it.

I got an update and it seems like i have three different situations. First cake is coming out great. Second cake is still not giving any sign of life. Third cake seems a bit blue to me, is it mold? Should I chuck it?

Looks like bruising, usually a sign that the SGFC is too dry. Did u add more perlite?

If you don't have that 4-5" thick perlite layer you will want to keep the perlite sprayed constantly.

I followed your suggestions, I added perlite and made the whole thing damp. Thank you so much for guiding me a bit through this. The first cake is blooming, does it look like I can harvest it already? Do you think the other two have any chance of getting sprouting some life?

Those fruits are ready to pick. The other ones definitely have a good chance still they may take different times and such it's normal.

You want to raise the SGFC off the chair. Put something to allow air to flow through it from the bottom up.also your holes look pretty far apart. After this run I would increase the holes x2.
And no you don't Sterilize perilite just wash it in the bathtub or outside garden hose .

Nice work! Looks a lot better. Harvest those fruits, they are ready for the next step, either spore printing or drying.

Thanks dudes. My problem with making more holes is the plastic cracking. How do you personally preserve spores? Fridge?

Cool, dry, dark place in plastic baggies. You don't need to chill them.

A little update! So the first cake is already at its second flush and it's pinning like crazy, lovely. The second cake doesn't give any sign of life, I'm thinking about dunking it again, what's your take? Third cake finally gave me something, but the mushrooms are a bit white and with a strange shape, is it ok?
