So, just how long did it take Sir Alan to just see a mushroom, and know exactly what species it is?

When I started out identifying mushrooms on The Shroomery in 2007 it would take me about a half hour to ID each one - I would key them out in books and online. I stuck with it and after a few months of this it was more like 5 minutes for each one as I got a feel for what the keys were asking and where to go in the key for certain mushrooms rather than having to run each mushroom through the full key from the beginning.
By 2010 it took me about one second to ID each one, and by 2015 about a half second. I am now down to about a quarter of a second delay between when I see a photo and I know what it is. I am not sure that I'll ever get much faster but I learn new species every day.

Wow man, that is quite impressive, to say the least
You've really inspired me to start learning as much as I can about mushrooms, and maybe one day, just maybe, I can be just a fraction as good as you are at mushroom identification
But, until then, I have lots of research to do
