the right mushroom and timing for spore printing 2

Hello dear growers,
Im wondering how to properly choose my mushrooms for spore printing.
Is the flush they are coming from important? Are the bigger mushrooms better? and also, where is the right time to harvest them? I know the good moment is before they throw the spores, but shout I pick them right after the veil is broken? or should I wait until they fully open?
Here an example of the exact moment of confusion:

I would take a tissue sample from a cluster
Or i guess a print too
Cut the cap off after the veil breaks preferably soon as its opened up but hasnt released spores

That one actually looks pretty good for printing. spores have like reset genetics or something like that, you will have all kinds of possibilities from whichever mushrooms you print whereas cloning a tissue sample from that mush will produce more that are similar to it.
Cloning is cool but you should always have some prints to hold on to or trade

in process right now, and had same exact same question. so i just went for it.
took ones just past your pic but not 10 minutes more, even had to peel under one a bit to expose it the whole way. even tho its not dropping anything right now, set it on foil inside your SAB. i waited 6 hrs and then looked. the caps had ripened and turned upwards and i have some DARK prints.

If size is a concern, subsequent flushes tend to produce fewer and somewhat larger fruit bodies. There are plenty of write ups on taking spore prints with the goal of avoiding contamination. Push pin in the cap. Scalpel through the stipe. Place on sanitized foil. Cover without sealing entirely. Deposits will be darker the longer it sits.

I always go for a cluster in hopes of genetics that push lots of clusters and create dense pinsets

Multispore is multispore. Genetics lottery. Clone the largest fruit from the largest cluster, but that is tissue cloning.

I always choose the nicest looking shroom what i call the "Picture Perfect" shroom speciem
Best time to harvest is shortly after the veil breaks. If your shroom cap turns flat, its too late and u likely will have spores all over your FC/cake/substrate.
I recommend printing inside your SAB for clean prints. Dont open-air print. Its not a good practice.
I used to print all my shroom caps but now Im trying to be more selective, mostly for getting cleaner prints. Currently using petri dishes for printing on. They are working great for me

Thanks you! The petri dish idea is great. Then you don't need thin foil right? you can just put water there to make a syringe.
Also I have read that is not so good to spore print right after the veil opens because if you wait more, until the cap opens properly, then you will get more spores. But of course, thats if you don't care about the spores in your cake. So the end of the 3rd flush is a good moment for that no?
