Bod said he doesn't like them. He is the og of the unmod so besides it seeming to me that it would just take up too much space in quantity, I would go with his reccomendation and stick to the 54s.
Can you use them, sure. But what optimistic goal do you intend to achieve
And yes the lids seem to vary. Some of mine sit nicely some are crooked. It helps to latch them down sitting in direct sunlight for a while before spawning to help the tub mold itself to the lid. Or use a heat gun/blow-dryer.
It helps a little.
Otherwise it's a non issue. Just learn to read the room.
For example: Unmod tubs do not like fans in the room like traditional monos do. Ime

rookie here - im agreeing. i got 71qts because 2.99 and i think the substrate is a bit too shallow with the 1 brick coir recipe...
i think the 54qt is the size of choice

Some of my most monstrous fruits came from sub depths less than 3" so I wouldn't worry about it too much. What can be an issue is the perimeter drying due to large volume tub with thinner sub.
If you have to leave the lid on stock then do so just remove the gasket. It's a useless attribute to the tub anyway

You can use any size tub really
Bigger seems like more issue
Smaller ones are easy and less eggs per basket

Probably not Bod's favorite becasue they aren't as space-efficient as more smaller tubs when you're stacking a room full of tubs... Just a guess. I have one of these and thought about runnning it but it would make my stacking situation in the laundry room even more ridiculous... Looking good btw. Gonna be a nice haul I do believe.

Hell yeah man. Nice work-in and setup. I can't wait to see what your yield looks like! Just might have to motivate and run one of these myself. It's funny... there's been a run on tubs near me as well lol. Damn you Covid Good on you for tackling agar btw.

Low fae, Tub will be damp af and look sweaty. In a tub with no fae, musky humid warm tiny caps long stipes + sweaty

Wet and humid as fuck, myc on top might mat up a bit looking thicker, myc starting to climb into the air trying to colonize it, lots of moisture on the surface
I personally just like to keep fae low until i see pins developing then once theres a nice pinset and they start getting bigger i up the air a bit

Lol 12 qts, that’s awesome. Gonna be a canopy for sure.
Like somebody said earlier the main issue is the more surface area the tub has the quicker it’ll dry if you follow a recipe for a smaller tub and make it thinner.

That's 1 brick of coir in each tub and 12 qt spawn split between 2 tubs?
That surface depth is actually pretty good imo. I find the 54 with 1 brick and 2qt verm with 5qt spawn to be a little too thick.
It really depends on genetics and field capacity but i tend to get larger mushrooms with thinner subs. Im not sure why but perhaps the thicker sub holds moisture and once in a while a tub will grow 3-4" shorties.
My grow season is over. 5 monos left to fruit and then thats a wrap. Next season ill run some actual test tubs to back up my anecdotal assumptions but at the end of the day those 80s look great.

I never really had issues with side pins first flush
Ive never used a liner
Side pins arent really the end of the world
Better than no pins
Wish i didnt delete all my pics, ive had some pretty wicked cool side pin flushes
Really just makes it a bit of a pain harvesting

I use wbs, agar to grain or g2g, prep coir and verm as sub, spawn to shoeboxes
Usually split a brick of coir to about 6 boxes
Usually use 1-2 (closer to 1, sometimes 1.5) qt jars of spawn for each box
Split my sub to the boxes saving some sub for top layers
Let em ride out until they start pinning (unless something looks off)
Once it starts pinning i dub tub
Adjust gap for more or less fae depending on whats going on
Mist when needed depending on surface
I mist after full colonization if the surface isnt* beading. Dont need it much, once or twice a day or something if need be
I often bottom water a bit once my pinset is full and starts blossoming
Been known to mist the shit out of them if theres a dense forest growing prior to full growth and prior to caps starting to open

As far as fruiting i leave shit as is and restrict fae until a dense pinset.
Only once pinset fills in and they start growing do i add air.
I feel like a lot of people starting out introduce air too soon thinking it will help grow pins and get a pinset but doesnt seem the case ime

Sounds like it probably switched from colonizing to fruiting mode.
12 days is right when that usually happens so keep an eye out for knots.

Used to happen to me. Next time you're mixing your tub, focus only on stirring up the corners and edges. Everything in the middle will naturally get mixed anyway if you do that and you won't run into brown spots like that. Though I agree probably won't cause any harm.

Hopefully not the old “somebody unreliable got jammed up” phonecall that initiates the total self destruct sequence.

Why is that? I do unmodified 25 quart tubs and i have a fan running 24/7, but i am still dialing stuff in...
Too much fae in my room with a fan. With lid flip the corners, sides or surface gets dry really quick. With traditional monos the poly is tunable and can be more restrictive than a gap around the top so a fan can actually be more beneficial for those. Ime. Ymmv.

False alarm guys, I'm sorry, I freaked the fuck out yesterday. Definitely knots appearing today. Will update with a pic when we get some pins.

Hey metaphoric, here ya go!
This thing is growing from every possible surface that it can. Little mushies all over the sides and bottom too. Gonna be a pain in my ass, liners from now on.

Here we goooooo Shout out to wombra...wherever you are.
I used a liner only a couple times. You know what I found when I pulled it off? Little pins and mushrooms scattered around on the sides and bottom lol. Clones seemed to do better as far as side pins for me but I got them randomly sometimes even with liners and with good surface conditions. Mushrooms are funny sometimes
