How to get a better yield 1

Thank you to everyone that’s helped me on my first time growing mushrooms it has been very helpful, but I have a few more questions;
1. What would be my best bet for best yield with only 1/2 lb of inoculated rye spawn bag(not sure what it’s called tbh) and 2 lb of bulk manure substrate. My original plan is to grow out of the bulk bag because I have such a small amount and I’ve heard the bags can maintain higher temps where it is cold where I live.
2. I have tried using agar with a spore syringe multiple times but even when I use a swab the moisture causes bacteria before mycelium.
Living in Maine makes it hard for growing tbh

I think after it colonizes im gonna mix the bulk substrate with it in this container might be pointless because of how small it is.

1/2 lb of spawn isn't much. Maybe make 2 or 3 shoeboxes?

What is that contraption?
I second the shoebox approach. I think it would have the highest yields for 1/2 lbs of spawn.

Living in Maine doesn't make it hard.
Not following teks makes it hard.

Keep trying agar
If you want higher yield the best and fastest way is make more spawn

If you have a spore syringe you don’t need a swab in the process to agar, just put a drop on the plate.
I’ve had success just keeping the drop in the middle in instances where all the water in the syringe seems to be harboring bacteria. But I’ve only taken a syringe to agar five or six times ever, I’ve seen other people advise putting the drop in the middle and then slightly tilting to spread out a line and give more chance for a spot of clean mycelium to poke out.
Did you make any prints with your first grow? If not that should be the first thing you do next time to get a mush to pop up.

Thanks everyone, Also I say its hard in Maine because of temps it could be 70 then snow the next day.
what is the shoebox approach
I plan on taking prints after my first mushrooms grows

If you have the money then buy a flow hood. It'll make doing agar work and grain to grain so much easier.

Isn’t 1/2 pound of spawn less than a quart?
That’d be one shoebox worth.
You can grow in anything deep enough really. This is a red bull box with a bag inside I did cuz I was out of shoeboxes.

Also the bottom of 2liters and water jugs works. Seriously anything check out the novelty grow thread.

Water doesn't cause bacteria. Either your spore solution or your sterile Tek are compromised (it both).

The main reasons people get low yields are poor growing conditions and bacterial spawn. Spawn might look fine but still have bacteria that can lower yields.
A good culture definitely helps too. There is no reason you shouldn't get good yields with MS but a good producing clone culture or isolate really helps.

So I got a space heater to help temp and the mycelium is starting to take off, I think Im gonna use a plastic container which I modified to be a very small fruiting chamber. When they grow will there be multiple flushes? When should I harvest a mushroom to make spores prints?
This is my first grow

Nice! What is your room temp without the space heater? Unless it's real cold it doesn't matter as much as you might think
Yeah typically you get multiple flushes

lol I’d make one huge ugly chick! Unfortunately I’m not nearly as man as some of the dicks posted on here.
I’ve had girls tell me I have pretty hands a few times though, and according to some old music teachers I’ve got what’s called “pianist hands”.
Anybody with a hook for hand modeling let me know.

I only have a total of 2lbs with my bulk substrate 1lb rye 1lb manure, what would be my best bet. Im thinking about putting the manure and rye in a plastic bin but im not sure it would be deep enough for mushrooms to grow, I could grow it out of a grow bag but I hear it yields way less. One last thing Im wondering is do mushrooms need sunlight or would a norm room light be fine.

Sunlight is best, even indirect. Otherwise you need a 6500k light.
I’d do a shoebox. As long as it fills up at least 2 inches deep it should work.

There’s a ton of variables.
Off a quart of spawn, which I think is the same as a pound, you could get anywhere from 14 to 70g dry.
Depends on the culture and how well you maintain it. Imo you’d have to really fuck up to get less than a half ounce.
For a first grow and using spores 20-30g dry is pretty likely.

With my supplies my depth would be like 1.5 inches, I have some potting soil which I heard I could use as casing layer to get another half inch, would that increase yield.

Its only been like 12 days so im probably being impatient, but It has not seem to grow over the last couple of days. There was a lot moisture at the bottom of the bag this morning I think its from mycelium heating up the bag warmer than outside.

Can't be said for sure. With bags, you shouldn't really disturb them unless you're mixing them up or sth, because you're breaking myc a little every time you move it around. If you have myc in a visible position, use a thin marker and mark the colonized area. Then check again in a few days.
Myc seems to grow slowly when you're starting up, but it also feels fast when you have multiple runs running in parallel.

Is the top of the bag near the patch inflated at all or do you have it looking like its vacuum sealed

I think the moistures just from temps the bag seems fine, I think im messing with it to much so im gonna let it sit for a few days. Im so impatient I pick it up every few hours inspecting it which im sure does not help growth lol. I notice with my space heater it causes the air quality to be worse so I opened a window to let some fresh air into the room, maybe that will help.

Just put it in such a way that you can observe growth without touching it. But yeah, you'll learn patience over time.

Mycelium seemed to be growing fine but there was a lot of water collecting at the bottom so I mixed it, its prob around 20 percent colonized anyway.
