On a lot of the pictures of "heathly" cakes, which always have huge mushrooms attached, there is a layer of fuzzy white mycelium around it. How long does it take after it's 100% colonized to get that way.

You're suppose to wait a couple days before birthing to make sure it's done in the middle, and these have been done for 7 days and it's not fuzzy at all. Do i need more water in the jars? Or is my notion of fuzziness just wrong.  :mushroom2:

it well get fuzzy after you put it the fruiting chamber.rolling it verm will make it fuzzy to.the mycelium grows throu it cause it to be fuzzy.

what does it mean if there is a 3/4 inch layer of fuzz bubling all over a 1 week old cake

depend on the colour satx...if its not very white its probably cobweb.. if its myc it should be nice and white.... check here if its fuzzy like that third group its cobweb

Hmmm....sounds like cobb webb...if it spreads quickly and looks darker than mycelium and is thinner than the myc. then its probably cobb webb......m...gl
