That’s what I thought. Felt pretty good about them. When you’ve got a play that’s full colonized like this, where should I transfer from? Or does it really matter since I’ll have to take a couple transfers anyway?

Absolutely:one of the main reasons people do no pours is recyclability! No need to sterilize between uses, mix new agar, pour, sterilize and cool like fresh cups

I'm about to try my beet juice agar idea.
Anyone know of any reason why it's doomed?
I plan on boiling beets and using the juice to dye and provide nutes.
Probably the equivalent of providing pure sugar, so maybe that's a bad thing.
I figure the colorant is not water soluble and might persist better than water sol. dyes.
I guess I could also just use a small amount for color and use LME as well.
Any feedback is much appreciated

That I don't know, but I'm sure it's probably beet juice for water and then add agar as you would per the other TEKS....HEY!! This could be your moment to shine! I'll be waiting for the write up!

This is my first attempt at agar. On 4/20, I streaked a plate with Stropharia cube spores. Mycelium appeared on 4/23. No contamination.
Today, I excised two pieces of hearty mycelium and did my first agar to agar transfers! Whoo-hoo!
Agar rules!

D3monic,
I'm waiting for blue, red and green food coloring that I ordered from McCormick. But damn, your photo compels me to order some charcoal! I love the contrast that it provides.
I'm using premixed, just-add-water and PC it MEA.
What type of charcoal do you use, and how many grams/liter do you recommend? Please give us an estimate of the weight of your "scoop."
Thanks.

Not sure how well the mccormik coloring will hold up in PC. If you find issue with it changing color in PC I’d recommend going with wilton brand neon gel. Since the charcoal isn’t a nutrient source I don’t think ratios really matter. I’ll toss a little on a scale later and see but guessing 1g per 100ml
