Active Pluteus? NZ forest (Waikato) * 1
    #26638265 - 04/30/20 04:41 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Habitat:
Growing from a rotting log in forest in Waikato NZ
Gills:
White, free

Stem:
Smooth, slender, light brownish colour, almost translucent or silky looking.  Not brittle or fragile.

Cap:
Very spherical, convex but not conical, ringed in shades of brown, tan, cream, grey...similar to stem, smooth, hygrophanous.

Spore print color:
Off-white, not quite chalk white.

Bruising:
Very dark bruising (I thought black but it could be dark indigo) developed on the gills, entire stem and mottled the cap

Its unlikely its active. The only active Pluteus reported from NZ is Pluteus velutinornatus.

Good ID thread BTW.

EDIT: Geez those picked specimens caps look a lot different than in situ. Never heard of black staining Pluteus. Interested to see what it is.

Thankyou

I was confused when I got home, I hadn't noticed the staining in the forest. Pluteus was suggested, a couple people have had a look and said maybe not. Would love to know what it is as well.

Yes, and none stain black.
