Impossible to say. It is psilocybe cubensis. Most strains are impossible to distinguish from one another. Penis envy is an exception.

How do they get labelled in the first place?

What I mean is it's usually impossible to tell them apart by looks only. Two different strains can look identical yet have different traits like growing factors, potency and alkaloid composition. Some strains might look slightly different from another, but there will always be one other strain that would look identical. Penis envy is the only unique looking strain I know of. An example from the plant world: Can you tell Skunk #1 and Super skunk apart just by looking at them? 😉

Many strains also get labelled from the area they're found. I.e. mexicana, Puerto Rico, thai, Equador and so on.

Does it matter what strain they are?

You should get them going with agar and take your mycelium and Put it directly to unsterile wood chips. The mycelium from ovoids is very aggressive. I'm not really the best person to ask tho.
You might find a better answer in The Official Woodlovers Thread

Well I mean yeah..
This is ovoid mycelium on cardboard. Once you germinate your spores on agar it's super aggressive.

"Strains" Are A Marketing Scheme Used By Dealers To Sell Shrooms To Potheads. They Get Away With It Because Potheads Are Used To Weed "Strains".
Let's Say You Grew Golden Teachers & I Grew Colombian Rust. Nomatter What The Dealer Said When We Bought The Spores, Either "Strain" Could Be More Potent Than The Other. It All Depends On Genetics.
Psilocybe Cubensis Is Psilocybe Cubensis, Just Like A Human Is A Human. We're Different Colors, We Speak Different Languages & We Come From Different Parts Of The World But We Are All Still Humans.
Some People Say PE & Albinos Are Stronger Than Other Cubes But That Still All Depends On Genetics. I've Eaten PE Before & They Were Weak, Not Even As Strong As The Wild Cubes I Find. I've Also Had Some Colombian Rust That Were So Strong They Were Impossible To Microdose With Because .2-.3 Felt Like 1.5
I Think The People Who Say PE Is Stronger Just Got Some Good PE Genetics, So Now They Think ALL PE Are Stronger, Which Is Not True. Potency Depends On Genetics & Each Mushroom Will Contain A Different Amount Of Actives Than The Next, Even If They Were From The Same Batch.

Agree. I've never noticed any difference in potency within the same species. Exception is wild vs. cultivated panaeolus cyanescens, but that has little to do with strain.
