BRF cake to shoebox question. Can I throw the cakes into a blender?
    #26636601 - 04/29/20 11:17 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

I have several jars that are fully colonoized BRF cakes. I'm planning on breaking the cakes down into a shoe box grow.

Question: Instead of using a cheese grater on the cakes, can I just throw them into a blender? Will that damage the myc?

Second queston: For the coir substrate, I can do eitehr the hot bucket method or use a pressure cooker. Any advantage to using a pressure cooker over the hot bucket?

Thanks!

IDK about blending them, but hot bucket method works.

Don't blend em break them apart with your hands or use the medium/large holes on a cheese grater.

Coir is very contam resistant I've soaked it in cold water and hot water only difference is hot soaked seems to colonise faster.
I've read from posts on here that mycelium prefers coir cooked vs being Hydrated with cold tap water and my own tubs did the same.

You can soak the coir in anything with hot water and a lid/foil, or just use the bucket tek it's proven and used by many
