I've been living on the west coast for 10 years, but I was born in Philly. I've been hunting west coast woodlovers for 8 years & always dreamed of being back East for an Ovoid season.

Came back for a wedding in March & got stuck here for quarantine....guess it was fate. Weekend finds from southeastern PA:

:rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon:

Finally on the board with these!

A bucket list species for me. I already have stem butts on cardboard & setting up the still air box for spore prints.

Anyone have dosage recommendations for these? I plan to eat them fresh, not dried.

I'm looking for an experience equivalent to 2g dried cubensis. Thanks for your insights!

A modest find for me today.

The mycelium was really thick under the leaf litter

Just wanting to make sure all are ovoids. I know there was just a post with ovoids and black caps. But these black caps looks completely different

I mean I find the black and cream capped ones (and  also an Orange capped variety that is much less common) in the same habitats, but they are usually grouped with their own kind. I don’t tend to find two types right next to each other.

Also, black capped stem butts produce black capped colonies in future years.

I’m not trying to say you are wrong by any stretch... these were pretty unusual.

Y’all wanna see the most enlightened turtle on the planet??

😂Not staged. He was straight chillin in a beautiful patch

And 1 more for the road. It’s absolute ovoid heaven out there right now, but I didn’t get many photos today

This gives me much hope!

I just hope the thunderstorms stay away long enough, because this is the only chance I have to go this season.

I hate that no mushrooms grow in my area, and that I have to travel so far to find anything cool :mad2:

They definitely hug the ground pretty tight, and big broad caps.

If you find some tomorrow try and transplant some substrate. I gave it a go for the first time today. Had a couple pins, Hopefully it takes off.

I actually did that years back, but the snails and slugs that overtake my yard ate all the pins and mycellium :mad2:

This time I'll keep it enclosed

Nice work everyone!

Still nothing but mycelium growth happening in man made patches around central ohio.  I am going spend the day in SE Ohio tomorrow hunting.  Spent an hour or two studying google maps and I think I found some more promising locations close to where the original find was.

I made a little barrier around a patch with diatomaceous earth some slugs had there eye on. I am not sure how effective it is, but should help keep them away.  I see the rolly polly bugs (technical name) crawling around in mulch patches too.  Not sure if they eat mycelium or what, but so far does not seem to be causing problems.
