Penis envy a different process? 1

Are there a lot more different factors and different things that make penis envy hard to grow like your substrate? Or it's the same exact thing as just doing a regular shoebox? What are the differentiating things between the penis envy (cubenis) and all the other cubensis in growing them?

It’s the same but different if that makes sense. Basically PE is less forgiving. I wouldn’t bother with PE until you have some easier grows under your belt.
To me, PE is more of a novelty... more work for less yield (and the increase in potency doesn’t make up for the less yield). Maybe just me...

PE isn't any harder to grow. It does do better with a casing layer. Other than that its just really slow & typically doesn't produce the best pinsets without a good clone or culture. The meatiness of the fruits can make up for the lack of them. PE fruits are really dense so they weigh a lot more than typical cubes, especially dry.

Kinda jumping on ur thread here. By casing layer do you mean the top layer added when the tub is mixed up?

No, a true thicker peat based casing like jiffy mix or 50/50+ peat/verm with adjusted ph

PE does poorly on PF cakes but should be the same process for trays/shoeboxes.

They do aight on cakes.. just gotta be patient and keep them plenty hydrated since they take so long to fruit.. gotta be able to give them more water somehow while they’re chilling in the FC.. I use a thick verm casing that can be watered when needed. They actually blob less because if the smaller amount of nutes.. ime, anyway.
I did over water these a little too much.. I haven’t done PE cakes in a while, but they still turned out alright.
Those back two just fruited before the rest

Just seconding the casing layer, and an additional week after full colonization, left me with all fruits and zero blobs on my last run with them. But I love blobs. But definitely case imho.

All my PE grows ms and clone have had way higher yields than anything else. I’ve only run maybe 8 shoeboxes but first flush on all of them was 320-500 wet.
Theres a ton of threads about how to do PE.
The way I’ve settled on at the moment is doing spawn run and letting it sit a few days after hitting 100% and adding casing around 80-90%.
After that it’s zero maintenance just like normal.

Just regular old coir/verm bulk substrate that we use, leave some over for casing also?

I like to use the jiffy seed starter mix they sale in the lawn and garden isle of your local supermarket. I think it cost $6 for a big bag of it. You take that and pasteurize it. Alot of people use it straight out of the bag unpasteurized too but I'm kinda 50/50 on that after I lost two tubs that I used unpasteurized seed starter mix on. You can also make your own casing with vermiculite and peat moss then you use hydrated lime to adjust the PH. A real casing works best with PE but you can always. Run it uncased for your first tub or use a coir psudocasing it's just gonna put out a bunch of blobs on the first flush. Blobs may be ugly but they are still potent.

Do you have to do all that too with PE6? I've heard and seen that it's more like a normal cubensis.

Sounds like that might be a PE starter for me, PE6. It sounds like you don't have to babysit it like a regular PE and watch and add casing.

Pe6 is just a normal cube.
Mines for sure more toc than PE. But I guess it’s also degraded significantly cuz it looks nothing like the original pe6.

That first one was the heaviest one I’ve had, was 49 wet. But then it dried to like 2.2 somehow.

So is that PE6 in your pictures? Or TOC? I'm confused. Or did you try to cross TOC and PE6? So for PE6 I just do everything like a regular cube, no need for jiffy mix, casings, and all that correct?

Those pics are PE6 from later flushes.
Pe6 is a toc PE cross.
They don’t need anything different from the way you did the aa.
This was the first flush of the pe6 from spore.
