Should I remove my cake from the tub for side pinners?! 1

Hi there,
Been posting over the last few days and everyone has been super helpful - thank you to everyone who has engaged with me.
On reflection, I noticed my substrate was drying out and this due to the instructions that came with the grow kit said not to water once you have opened the bag for full ventilation. I've now started misting again and it seems I have the right conditions.
My concern is for the cluster of shrooms growing along the one side of the tub. The substrate seems to have cracked away from the one side of the tub during transit and has encouraged them to pin all along the one side and two corners. Pictures attached below from this afternoon.
---- Questions ----
1) In order to maximise yield, should I remove the cake into another FC like a terranium/monotub set up?
2) Or should I leave them as they are and pick when I harvest the larger ones that are growing on the top?
3) What encourages these to grow like this and is it a bad thing/can this be avoided if so?
-------------------- The reason why toadstools always grow so close to each other is because they are contented with minimal space. They don’t need mush-room to grow.

Yes, we have the same problem, want to start the next flush but not sure what to do about the side aborts, want to pick them but I'm not sure how to flip the cake around as I'm worried it may get contaminated.

I would take that cake out of that tray thing and put inside a fruiting chamber (bottom side down). Side pinning is usually caused by moisture on the plastic providing a microclimate that the pins like.

Thanks for your reply dude. Do you think a simple plastic tub like the monotub grows will suffice?

Yup. I would probably use a small tub since that cake block is not very big. U want a tub thats size appropiate.

I had the same thing happen (even worse with a lot more side and bottom pins) with a kit from that brand. First flush was the one with most side-pins. Now, I'm taking more care of surface conditions and it seems to help, although I think the fact that there are less side-pins is also related to less nutrients being available.
I tried flipping it on it's side and fruit it like that for the third flush but it would constantly fall over so I just let it be.
I think what Logical Chaos said is probably the best option.
@Logical Chaos: do you mean fruiting it in a slightly bigger plastic tub so the side pins have enough space and don't get grushed between the tub and the substrate?

Yup, exactly. It wants to fruit from the sides, and since its kinda the boss and doing its own thang at the moment, its best to allow that to happen. Best way to do that is "birth" the square cake into a larger FC and fruit in 3D baby!
Just be gentle with it and it should be fine. And if u dont have an FC ready, i guess that special fruiting bag will work for now.

The surface looks super dry though, unless you can fix the conditions I’d think they would be much healthier on the sides. They’ll still grow to the same size just pancaked.

-----UPDATE -----
I took your advice and have carefully removed the cake from the original tub and bought a slightly larger one to allow the space to grow outwards rather than flat.
On removing the tub and examining the side pins they all look healthy. Just hoping now that the new fruiting chamber will create the right environment to fruit further.
Photos - the ones were taken with the cake on the side was for photography purposes. The way the cake is placed flat is how I will be fruiting this from now on. Tub cost me £3 from my local ASDA (UK Superstore).
Will keep people posted on this thread if people want to follow (due to similar situations).

How are you able to tell the signs that my substrate is dry? Just curious so I can look for similar signs. I'd like to think that in the past two days with misting again the moisture has come back. The first few days of misting, it seemed to have just collected anything I sprayed, but over the past 12 hours or so of watching it has slowed in taking the moisture, I'm giving it, so starting to hold back misting as much. But will mist as and when I feel it looks 'dry' ... if you can give any indication of signs to look out for.
