Help with rye grow bags not colonizing
    #26633690 - 04/28/20 06:53 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

Trying my first batch using grow bags. Second time failing. After inoculation and incubation for a few days at 82 degrees, the grains seem to be wet with very little to no baby fuzz growing. When I colonized in jars at this point I would see the germination take place and baby mycelium start growing. Instead, the grains look like the spores almost or partially germinated but then stopped. My very first bag attempt  before these went sour. Please help.

I believe 82 is on the top end, I would dial it down somewhere around 78.

Try reducing you grain hydration about 10%

Also be sure the bag has a plenum of air above the grain.

Consider doing agar to LC and skip inoculating big bags of grain with MS syringes.

82f might be too warm for your bags, especially wet ones.

Dude you make those bags or but them? If you made them, dry the grain way better before Pacing. If you bought them, stop doing that and make your own. If you aren't wanting to get that involved, stick to PF Tek. If you carry on trying bags and want garunteed success, learn agar. If you choose to go spores to bags again, use very very minimal spore solution per bag.

Also, don't "incubate" your bags at 82 degrees. It's not needed add will greatly encourage bacterial growth. I keep my bags around 72.

Also, I doubt those bags will do well. I think they are already bacterial but when if they aren't.... They almost certainly will be. I'm not saying you should trash them but you should start another project pronto. Off you want to harvest some magic soon.
