WBS going wrong every time

I have tried WBS quite a few times now and the result is disappointing.
I start by cooking the seeds for 5 min, let them dry until no steam comes out, put them into glasses, I tried half, a quarter and 3 quarter full.
A few days go by and the first sign of mycelium occurs, but around 20% it stops and nothing happens (I'v had them standing for weeks with no progress) If I try and shake them it turns in to almost a slimy contents.

Did you sterilize jars with seeds?

foomans wbs works always for me.
take wbs and fill your quart jars half way full with dry raw wbs
do this for each jar your gunna use.
Take a pot of water and boil the water only till a strong rolling boil
take pot of the heat
pour your wbs into the pot (you should have enough water to cover over the seeds
let it soak in the pot for 20 minutes
drain into a colander or some meshed screen
rinse the seed under cool water for 10 minutes, use a spoon to scrape it around so it is rinsed thoroughly till water runs clear under the colander
let it dry in the colander for 1 hour (tek says 30 minutes but that is still too wet for me, so I leave it for 1 hour)
then load your jars 1/2 to 3/4 full
put them in the PC and allow venting for at least 10 minutes minimum
put the weight on PC and sterilize at 15 psi for 90 minutes

I have been finding that the soak method for your WBS prep is the best, and I'm glad I used it first. I just followed hamloafs 45 minute no soak cook prep and it didn't work to well. In the same amount of time as the other jars from inoculation they're really lagging. Almost stalled out. While my soaked WBS is almost done.
Just soak your grains next time and nute them up overnight for 12 hours with coffee and gypsum. Then bring them up to a rolling boil on the stove with your water 2-3 inches overtop of your grains and take them out and steam them off till the moisture content is right. Load them into jars and PC. Use that stuff.

+1 for WBS but you have to do it better OP
soak WBS overnight just in a bowl of water to clean and to hatch any endospores etc.
drain/refill put on stove to simmer - i dont like to boil it. all you want to do is heat it up so the seed takes max water content. if you boil it too long you start cracking open seeds. you aint trying to cook em.
so set that steamed WBS aside for 2 hrs let dry. WBS should be pretty dry to touch putting into grain jars - it should not stick or clump and shake easily inside the jar.
load jars, PC @15psi for 60 minutes. let cool overnight. then go.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I think I found the fail.
I soaked the seeds for 24 hours and when I drained them they where sticky and slimy, could the seeds be some how not suited for cultivating mushrooms?
I will try tomorrow with Rye and see if it's better.
Again thanks everyone for stepping in to help me.

When I use wbs I
Boil a big pot of water.
Place a 5gal nylon paint strainer bag into a 5gal bucket and stretch the elastic across the top.

Fill with x quantity of dry wbs for 10-20 jars.then fill with water. Clean off the floaters.
Tie the bag so the seed is contained.
Plunge into water/bucket with hose running in bucket til water runs clean.
Empty water from bucket.
Dump in boiling water and put on the lid. Come back in an hour or so and dump the water. Open bag and spread out seed over a screen . Load jars. PS 15psi 90m
Perfect Everytime.

Five minutes doesn’t seem long enough.
When you soak them overnight there’ll be a bunch of oily stuff floating on top, I usually pour the water out and refill it.
Also before drying them I’ll scoop out a strainer full and rinse it with clean water first. That should help with the stickiness.
Wbs is really easy but it’s gotta be hydrated enough.

I dump 200 degree water into the end and cover with a lid, let sit an hour and then strain minimally. Load while still quite wet. Works for bags or jars.
Alternately, hot water overnight soak and then loading while still wet works too.

Hi there! I also use WBS since it's the cheapest grain where I'm from. I followed this TEK and it worked very well for me: SpitballJedi - No Cook WBS One thing I see no one pointed out, is that there are different qualities of WBS. I've bought a couple different brands and some that I got was mostly millet and the grains were easy to shake, another one that I bought also had some other grains, crushed, and it made it much much harder to shake. It still worked in the end, but it was a real pain. I suggest you get the WBS with a lot of millet and whole grains. Maybe the jars stalled for lack of GE, are you using filtered lids? The sliminess could also be from some bacterial contaminant instead of the grain prep.

Avoid and with shitloads of cracked corn and sunflower seeds. For instance, Ace hardware had shit for WBS. I'm sure the birds love it but it's shit fur us. A lot of folks like the Pennington classic from Wally world
