Bruised or moldy?
    #26632996 - 04/27/20 08:47 PM (4 years, 8 months ago)

Hello!

Newbie here on this site, but also to the growing experience in general! I had a quick question in regards to the picture of my cake and the particular mushroom cap that has the dark green/black/blue(?)ish middle of the cap. I’m currently in the fruiting stage and the one specific cake has been really producing some big ones, esp this specific one. My first question is, is the mushroom cap just bruised and still consumable, or is it moldy and I should remove the whole mushroom from the cake? Secondly, the cake itself has blue fuzz on it. I did some reading and it seems like using the q-tip trick to test if it’s moldy enough was a method to use, which I did, and there had been no residue on the q-tip cotton, suggesting bruising as well. Is this correct? Why is it blue and what should I do to prevent it from happening again? Is it bad to the overall quality of the product?

I appreciate all the advice and suggestions - thank you!

That cap has spores on it because all the veils broke and spooped spores everywhere, they'll wipe off. The cake is bluish bruising from the fruits pulling water from it, give them a dunk after you harvest and they'll put out another flush.
