Yeah imo the only way to address this is for companies to make changes that will allow employees to stay on site, give them overtime, hazard pay, whatever - offer them housing options with a fully stocked pantry and rations. They're being forced to shut down due to outbreaks at their plants, they need to spend the money and time to prevent that.
The entire supply chain is gonna have to start doing this, otherwise it's just going to fully collapse. It's gonna take some truly heroic efforts, but I haven't seen Tyson or any other major companies leaping to do anything much themselves.
...Now's a good time to buy a hog though. I'll sooner go veg, but apparently prices of pigs are damn cheap. Lots of animals are gonna be euthanized, and probably already have been.

You’d think the food / manufacturing industry titans’ workers would be considered essential personnel, no/yjesh ?
Give em what they need to work with a degree of safety and confidence, because if I don’t get my meat I will begin chowing down on the nearest human.
I’m sure it’s legit, but at the same time I’m sure they also just want government (taxpayers) money. How convenient

For a while we were dealing with all kinds of shortages(including pretty much all fresh meats except for the really cheap cuts no one wants) solely due to panic buying, gradually the supplies got better over the last month, and it was almost back to normal.
I expect this is going to bring about another wave of panic buying. Hope grocery stores are going to initiate a limit per customer(I don't even know how you begin to figure that out, as food needs vary per family - but no one needs a whole pallet full of pork shoulder) a bit faster at this point.

Koods lives in the DC metro area judging by his posts. Im sure costco there is so representative of the rest of America. The DC Maryland Virginia area is like a different country entirely.

Mortality data in the US shows far more deaths since the beginning of the outbreak than can be attributed to the official covid-19 death count, suggesting that the number of actual covid-19 deaths is twice as high.

I mean...it is representative, because a good portion of the country lives inside the DC-Boston megalopolis.
So this is a reality for a lot of us.

Morrow was just in here the other day saying that his Uncle died from COVID, was a positive test, and wasn't counted as an official COVID death, so...color me not surprised, unfortunately.
I'm starting to wonder if we'll ever really know the full extent of this even after the dust settles due to such disjointed and poor data collection methods.

Population density, demeanor and attitudes, and massive amount of people flooding then exiting for business, wealth. The population changes dramatically through the day unlike pretty much the entire rest of the country.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the DMV area had numbers like NYC and the rest of the country fares way better.
Inherently big ass metro areas are going to have food shortages. Boston is a fucking shitshow. Milwaukee is a-ok. Too many people in Boston to support. Grocery shopping there is a fucking pain in the ass when its not a crisis.

Yeah that was the most surprising thing about my Costco visit was the empty chicken shelves considering the poultry industry in the state is so huge
