Spore prints from contam tub
    #26632153 - 04/27/20 01:06 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

My tub got taken over by green mold, but I was able to harvest a first flush. I've made spore prints from some of the shrooms, but now I'm wondering if those prints are useless?
I'm guessing the green mold might've deposited spores on the shrooms, and so my spore prints might be already doomed.

Am I paranoid? Is there any way to ensure I'd be able to use those prints without any issues?

I'd rather not have to order prints from online again, I lost some money with prints not making it to me.

Thanks :')

Assume they have contamination.  Germinate spores on agar and do some transfers until you have something clean to inoculate with.

Air is not sterile therefore you can never get sterile prints even if your sub never goes green. Unless you grow your tubs in a sterile air environment which is completely unnecessary you always assume your spore prints have contams on them no matter how perfect your sterile technique is (which is why new growers who order spores online and dont start them on agar usually have a trich finish but once u get ur own spores and agar ur done with that step)

I'm not talking about a few fruits to a trich finish. I can do that in a trash can.

We obviously try and go to lengths to prevent as much extra contamination as humanly possible by using the proper procedures when it comes to printing but like i said, since they grow in open air they already are contaminated. Even the most perfect flushed cant be trusted. The air that we breath is heavily infested with all sorts of mold spores especially outside but we can still take wild mushrooms and their spores and start a grow with them if we use agar.
It was funny studying trichoderma and other molds to go outside and notice that it's EVERYWHERE! On the patio, sidewalks, trees, side of buildings, that thing u left outside that collected water for to long, everywhere! I heard someone jokingly say 'Oh your tub went green in your grow room? Time to burn the house down and start again." Tis a Common misconception of all new growers even me back then.  Which is why learning SAB work or acquiring a flow hood is the route most people who stick the hobby around go. Trying to get away from being trich cultivators.

That's where agar comes in and changes the game, no more shooting spore syringes into grains and crossing the fingers.

What it feels like knowing you have clean genetics and no contamination when going to spawn to bulk:

God i wouldn't type this much, but its corona time.
