I’ve searched and seen a bunch of these threads but none seem to look like mine. I’m 10 days into my first agar, knocked up from a spore syringe. I used a whole syringe to knock up 12 pp5 jars(too much I know). This is the plate with the most growth. It’s had growth for about 6 days. All the other plates had nothing the whole time until yesterday and now they all have signs of life. All white like this one but much smaller. My stuff just doesn’t look like all the nice symmetrical mycelium I’m seeing in everyone alses plates on here. This is my first attempt at anything grow related so I’m trying to learn if what I’m seeing is mycelium or something else. I know the pictures are bad but maybe someone can identify if things are okay. It’s solid bright white and look a little fluffy. Not flat on the agar and splotchy, not symmetrical. Thanks for any info. I still have two more syringes if I need to try try again!

It looks like it might be fuzzy tomentose mycelium. Only way to know is to take a small cutting and transfer it to another agar dish to see how it keeps going.
What agar tek did you use?
To get better ropy rhizomorph mycelium you're going to want a thinner agar layer that is a little lower on nutrients to make the mycelium reach out with rhizo growth more. A 25g to 1000ml ratio depending how you made your agar.

Hard to say through the side. Looks like mycelium, take a transfer and see how it grows.

Thanks for the replies. It was a brf agar but I kinda did a hybrid of a few different teks. I realize now how dumb that is to do as a beginner. Should have just followed the tek. Started reading a debate about who was right on how much brf to use and went with more than the tek called for.

That looks like it could be mycelium from what I can see.
Make a transfer soon.

Okay I have to admit, I’ve only made it as far as preparing and inoculating my plates from a syringe. Why do I need to transfer now when I barely have growth? Why can’t it continue to grow it the initial plates? I know that info is here to read but maybe you can give me the short answer and I’ll continue my research, Thank you to everyone for the replies.

syringes and spores are dirty. You transfer to avoid whatever small amount of mold spores or bacteria could be contaminating your clean plate. Its a lot harder to clean up myce once the mold and bacteria have taken hold. For germination you want a couple of transfers atleast. Plus the more transfers you take the more symmetrical it will start to look.
