Just did a little search on these guys... fairly limited info out there. I'm guessing you didn't consume or.... cool find anyway. What part of the country was this found (no need to be too specific) if you don't mind me asking? Hope you found a few others that were a little more appetising.

It was solitary in urban Auckland in a forest by a mall. I didn't consume it, waiting to get it back from a friend to send it to another friend for agar work. Have been told the blueing is from "the usual compounds" by a mycologist. Think that's code for active. Here are some subs I found yesterday in Hamilton.

"the usual compounds" very good. what I read suggests that they aren't particularly potent when it comes to the usual compounds but that blueing is pretty obvious, not sure if thats indicative of strength. Nice to see something a bit different.

The rain has prolonged my retirement. This spot has been pretty good to me this year.

Hi elle Here is my image of Pluteus velutinornatus for comparison.

If you're in the area again maybe try to find some better specimens to make identification easier

I could still photograph active mushrooms, yet I could not upload them.

Come next season I'll buy a supporter account if I wish to continue to blog about my illegal mushroom activity, as I mentioned earlier.
I enjoy sharing pictures of my drugs, so I probably will get a supporter account next year and post pictures and have yarns.
Yeah get that account man. I'm both looking forward to next season and a bit worried. Everyone talked about how this season was shit but I get the feeling that next year is going to be slim pickings for me unless I can find some new spots that didn't get hammered by the heavy rains we had. Dunno how good the mycelium is at recovering from these sorts or events, I guess we'll find out, but some areas got totally washed away so.... my great hope is the buckets and baskets and on ground areas I'm trying to get going. Will be awesome but going to lack the thrill of the hunt and find.

So spot question - my Weraroa spot has had a new layer of wood chips - quite a thick one on top of the patch, should I just leave it to hopefully propagate the mycelium for next year or should I perhaps take some off the top - I don’t want the big layer of woodchip to choke out the spot.

One of my seco spots are still pumping fresh fruit and I even found a sub the other day, gonna head out for one last check around before I throw in the towel. Had given up but this weather seems to be doing the goods

Went for a little stroll this evening and the recent rains had plumped up the last few little guys I was holding out for. not anything amazing but still dribs and drabs.... will be stoked if I get a September sub.

Notice how I've carefully placed my fingers in the shot to show perspective and to create a foreground background vibe. Dolan I've seen a fair bit of wood chip being spread around the last month or so and had wondered about the smothering factor too. Will be interested to hear if anyone more experienced has any input. I think I remember hearing on a video that mycelium tends to be in the top 2 inches (american vid) of soil. Maybe spreading it a bit thinner might be best. You'd think more chip = more food, but it does need oxygen to breathe so you'd think too much would be problematic.

With the recent cold snap, the mycelium I had dug up from a healthy patch and started cultivating in late June has come to life! Was topped up with pine chips and left in a covered container outside with regular misting, but I wasn't expecting any action till next autumn. Anyone have advice on how to look after it during the summer months - presumably keep the moisture up, but otherwise can you safely ignore it? Cheers

Beautiful. Really wanting to get some cultivation going at my place. I actually got about 6 sterile subs this year unexpectedly. Been throwing a few manky ones around the place and have tried to transplant some mycelium.
Anyway got a little haul today. The spot is still producing. Will go back in a few days and do another check.
