Funnily enough someone found them in Vic near alpine region or at least high up. Never know whats possible.

But for all intents and purposes no they dont grow there.

This sounds most likely to be liberty caps: Psilocybe semilanciata.  In the UK, its known that they grow above 400m... so your habitat definitely fits.
Checkout littleman's posts this year: he had some great finds including liberty caps.

Thank you.  Those pics look like my memory.  They are scarily similar to all the little brown mushrooms I have been passing by but knowing that they only grow above 400m is a great bit of info.

Do you know if there is any validity behind my theory that the spores are carried by cows?  They are normally found in grazed grass paddocks?

BTW I am envious of your season haul.  I am also pumped that I only started on this a couple of weeks ago and I actually found mushrooms.

Had a pretty good year in my area. Was at 96g dried a couple of weeks ago, but had a pretty big night with my gf and sister, down to 80g now.
Have some drying, and going up for another look this Saturday. Gonna try get to 100g before the season ends for me

Mornin all. Quick question for those in the know. If wood chip gets over run and covered by grass in my case kikuyu, will shrooms still push through? I'm assuming so... my season ended on about 60g dried... pretty happy with that. I've probably only got half that left now after a few experiences and giving a bit away. Should be plenty till next autumn but come April may I'm going to be frothing for the fungi. Out for a quick search today but not a lot of hope..

Assuming the substrate isnt spent, they should still fruit. Grasses make for good microclimates.

Thanks OOISI I see you're in SA dunno if you have kikuyu there.... it's a bit like kooch grass but on roids. I have a few areas of wood chip that I'm trying to colonise and I think inevitably they'll get over run by grass. So far I have a mix of chip that's a few years old and also some fresh stuff. Is fresh chip likely to get colonised and be ready to fruit the next season or is the older stuff a better bet. Considering getting a bit more partially broken down stuff from a friend to make another bed for the last few ghetto tek tubs I have going.

It's all here for you: Psilocybe semilanceata

-->  Note:  while in UK they say "above 400m"; I believe they grow at lower altitude around Dunedin; and certainly the ones Littleman found would not have been above 400m. I am keen, myself to go and hunt for libs (next season perhaps), but it is hard to find the time to go exploring in the country-side.

@Sam11 - they definately grow in grass that has grown over wood...  However; it is quite handy that the council keeps the weeds down around the city... Makes the fruits easier to find & pick...  You could make like the council & use carcinogenic glycophosphate (roundup) to control the grass:  or not!

Hey mudpuppy I'm not keen on spraying... I've seen that pic before, it's beautiful and more than I could hope for. That grass looks a lot friendlier than the stuff I'm dealing with

Grassy subs-->  side story:
when lock-down started to ease; I left a few nice fruits behind in some un-mown grass...  They looked right, but the habitat was wrong.  I picked one, and took it home to investigate...  It didn't bruise... it looked a LOT like a Sub; but with quite a brown stipe (which you see sometimes)...  anyway I put a section of it in some water & mashed it up:  sure enough the water turned blue.
I went back to pick them, but the grass had been mowed. It made me look a little harder & I found some fruits hidden in nearby shrubbery:

And that's my story.

There is a super public patch in the deep West that many seem to know about and treat poorly. . . Funny thing is all the fruits I've found in areas that were mulched and are now grassed (kikuyu). . . They started earlier and finished later due to the exceptional microclimate provided by the grass. . .

The best and funniest bit is those pickers who completely overlook the grass. . .

That's very encouraging. It sounds like the grass is left long if it's providing a micro climate. I've got mine nestled around a flax bush and a few other garden beds. Was thinking grass might be better because otherwise the birds get in and scratch it all up

So grassy subs may look different... is that blue water test a known indicator?

My grassy subs looked like subs; but a bit past their best- so harder to id.  My sample made a light spore print; not enough to id; and I couldn't see blue bruising.
The blue water thing I just made up, it wasn't a "known indicator".
I figured, if they are subs- this would be one way to see.  Because I used a small section of the mushroom, I used a very small ammount of water, in a white dish...  after about 30 mins it was a definite blue colour, and that was enough for me.  Going back & finding more confirmed it.

Anyone with advice flick me a PM.

Missing the daily hunts already. Maybe I need to start growing weed or some other illicit hobby.

One can only hope. Pointless putting people in jail, giving people black marks on their records, giving money to gangs and making it possible for unsafe shit, like synthetics it’s P to be dealt by the same dealers to kids.

I recon it shouldn’t be a majority wins vote. If 40% of people want it fuck the 60% of old dumb cunts.

agree there dolanD but unfortunately if the thing does go through and we get the yes get ready for a heavy police presence on the roads for a few years till said "old cunts" calm down... and also the blackmarket won't be going anywhere because you can bet govt weed aint gawn be cheap.  Ideally you need a heavy majority in favour so it can be implemented without having to pander to the outraged people who think it's going to be the downfall of society.

It will kill the black market.

If it passes, an adult can grow two plants at home, out of site from the public. With a maximum limit of four plants per household. That means if multiple adults are living at an address you cannot grow two plants each there is a limit of four.

It will not be government weed either. The government will provide a license for commercial growing operations. Also there will be licenses for small grow operations.

What people have not thought about yet is daily smokers, they will have much more to dodge now. They have been flying under the radar on the roads and at work. Not for much longer if this passes.
