Holy moly, i saw the shots of that not long ago. Such an awesome patch and pristine looking subs to boot. Woodchips and rank grass together at last. Clean white stipes!
The key is to take the best shots you can whether you have one pin or 50 shrooms in their prime.

Oh seco porn eh? I loike. 2017

The area with secos was 2 metre by 2 metre area full coverage of seco's. 15 trays BRIMMING withing 15 minutes of hauling in 1 spot. Had 2 go @ night and could not get any habitat pictures. But it was something me and xthrx will never 4get... pure insanity

When you wash them do you save the spore water for later use? I don't know if this method even works for starting new patches. It would seem like a shame though to let it all go down the drain.

Hi all these first ones I found back in may right after lockdown, note the little pin photo? It looked like none other than a pin growing up through the center of a previous pin, splitting it. That was a first for me. Then that last sub was the first find I’ve ever made where no wood chips are present. On a permaculture farm in golden bay in June. I mashed up a lot of sticks on top of the patch hoping for more fruits next year. Last photos a nice entoloma in buller a couple days ago. I looked back at all the patches I found around Nelson region and didn’t find anything, was hoping for some advice if I want to find more psilocybe this season. I can travel anywhere. Is Dunedin / southland region still good for libs? Sorry not asking for exact locations. Anyone feel free to PM me if you want to help Man some people I met told me exact locations of some kiwi and feijoa farms and they had nothing a couple weeks ago. Do those all just fruit at the start of the season?

Yes bro I also found subs this year for the first time in long grass where no dead wood/bark or detritus was present on the ground.
The fruit were lined up directly under a fallen (but still elevated) kowhai tree, almost as if the nutrients from the rotting wood had been washed off by the rain allowing the Myc underneath to fruit. Shoulda taken a photo in hindsight...
Also from experience P. Sub loves rotting Kowhai

Checked a spot from a couple of years ago today that finally has bore some fruit. Almost missed them as they were a lot darker than what I’ve been finding this year.

Out of interest when does the season usually dry up?

Hmm... these look similar to the weirdo's I sometimes find... ??? https://www.shroomery.org/12492/Psilocybe-allenii ???
If they are the same: my caps change from this dark, almost olive colouring, & dry to a much whiter colour than the usual (golden brown) subs eg: (pics from 2018)

Sorry for the confusion. I found one mushroom with no wood chips nearby, but it was growing on a single colonized stick in grass. I also found some growing next to the highway in between richmond and Nelson that were on just basically dirt and broken weeds/twigs but, it looked like there had been wood chips there 10 years ago. So I have never seen them without wood of some sort.

Hello, I am a professional Allenii hunter/cultivator from San Francisco and I can tell you 99% those are not allenii. (That’s what I thought before I saw the holes in the stems). 1. The edges of those caps are slightly upturned, allenii generally bow downward. 2. Allenii never ever ever have the olive color. There are multiple strains of allenii ranging from yellow, caramel like subaeruginosa and even whitish. 3. Allenii stems are hollow unlike most other psilocybe. You can take an Allenii and Cyanescens of same size and allenii will have a straight hole through it and cyan will be a stick. (Oh shit I just looked and your mushrooms have holes in them, my whole theory is shot). I even smuggled allenii mycelium into New Zealand Incase I never go back, and I have built a small patch in golden bay. Hoping for some fruits in 2021. I do wonder if the allenii travelled here by natural spore transport or if somebody had the exact same idea as me years ago and that’s how people find them? If I ever go back to the states it would be cool to plant some subs, secos and or weraroas in some city garden beds and see if they ever pop up on shroomery haha
