All of these produce spore prints:

Here I compare 2 shrooms; one had a thick spore print; the other was faint.

This one had a faint sporeprint:

howdy - thought I'd check in with the last couple weeks finds, sorry to hear most of you arent having much luck compared to previous years

went back to that mega sub spot again only to find a few very small pins and babies - went back again 4 days later and the pins had barely grown at all despite lots of rain - also the larger ones had obviously been picked then had a guy cross the road and jokingly tell me i was in his spot lol - he was all good we chatted for a bit turns out a few people know this one I just happened to get lucky with first flush of the season I reckon.

Psilocybe Subaeruginosa

I have found the occasional single fruit in other beds around the area but its getting a bit frustrating knowing there must be loads of other pickers nearby.
However I had enough stem butts from that first find to seed 3 of these 10-layer 'sub sandwiches' so hopefully next year I wont need to go poking around flower beds in public at all

Anywho, having given up on that spot I decided to leave hunting for a bit and the next day go for a walk with the gf around a local native reserve, not looking for any magics just generally taking in the autumn atmosphere when hooooly shit, babe.. look here!

felt like a right jammy bastard, right next to the path and obviously been undisturbed for a while we went snufflin for my first ever round boys!
got a pretty decent haul including one of the biggest I've even seen photos of.

Psilocybe Weraroa

very inky after 15mins

Emboldened by my apparent luck I planned a full days outing back to the area of my first lib find and proceeded to spend a full 4.5hrs tramping about through animal fields finding barely one fruit every 20 mins or so, but its all worth it when you find a good field which I managed in the last hour, picking a couple every few meters out in the highlands nothing and noone around except the wind, rain, hills and some sheep. thats my kinda hunting :shroompick:.

Psilocybe Semilanceata

pointy guy

lower slopes seemed to produce chunkier fruits with way less point and mroe of a classic psilocybe cap shape

found these 2 weridos and had to double take, definitley libs but pretty mutant.

about 60caps all in all

got a bit of a party coming up this weekend so considering making a megamix tea of all 3species :psychsplit:

Evenin all. Nothing as interesting as some people have been finding.... stopped past a wee patch that I'd harvested a few days prior and was pleased to find a handful.

@ Rodger a few states in the US have decriminalised shrooms so you never know.... but certainly a way off in nz.. I'm not sure how it would be if it was legal though. I already have concerns about what's going to happen if they legalise cannabis, I think they will ramp up testing and it will be much harder to fly under the radar. It's going to take generations for the stigma and misinformation to eventually wash away. Ultimately it's a good thing but I expect it to be kinda shitty initially if you're a stoner..

100% mate. It’s strange because I’d say the unenlightened masses tend to think of people who take mushrooms as wasters destroying their minds.

The experiences I have had changed me completely and I understand exactly what you’re saying rog.

I find people who have had psychedelic experiences See through the bullshit and are more grounded in themselves. The general pop doesn’t understand that these substances are teachers. Life changers. Gateways to understanding. Not just some far out shit that you see Mickey Mouse sitting in the corner with a knife on.

Ps Lol Shit super high AF! Haha

First post on this site.

Found these in Hamilton yesterday. The photo was one cluster of mushrooms of about 6 or so clusters in the whole bark garden. Busy area so I decided to come back later that night (1 am) to harvest. Was picking patch 4/6 and some old guy in a high vis (security guard) yells 'what are you doing?' and I shat myself haha... was just like 'uhh nothing' and just started walking away, and I looked back and he was like jogging toward me, then he was like 'stop, come back here'. So I'm like oh shit gotta boost, so I ran into the nearby trees and kinda hid in the shadows for a bit. I'm pretty sure I saw him talking into a phone or walkie talkie or something. Then I had go to around the block to approach from the other side so I could get my car (it was parked like 20 metres from the spot). Lucky he left by then.

Wow what a cunt! Man I recon day time for public spots is better, theres nothing wrong with taking pics of mushrooms, and when the moment is right you can harvest. I’ve only got very public patches to pick from so yeh - check my sig.

@one23abc :  Hahaha!  good hunting story!  ...That's why you just collect em in the daylight hours: much easier to see, no torch required... Way less dodgy. Who cares if a few people see you rummaging in the garden...  5 mins later, you're gone!
-->  last week some bloke pulled up in a van and asked "Is there psilocybin there?"  I replied with a smile & a disappointed "I wish".  (luckily he came along after I'd harvested, & was just looking around the area for more).  He must not have came back, because that was the patch I posted on Tuesday... untouched by others.

Here are some habitat shots from this morning;  and the 'cybes de jour'

Are you finding these shrooms, or are they finding you?  You have inspired me to go hunting for liberty caps around Canterbury...  I'm completely out of my element looking for those, and not sure if they are even around here.

hah, felt like the weraroa just wanted to be eaten - some had been there so long they were turning back into goo.
Libs I just have formed a fairly ingrained sense of the habitat and a keen eye for the exact shape/colour of them over the years in the UK. Also probably a safer bet near a big city as I dont think as many people know about them/can be bothered to put their boots on and head deep into the hills for a day compared to just walking/driving around the streets.

I say go for it, as far as I know there's a lot of p. semi around dunedin so I reckon they'll be pretty prevelent throughout south island.
I had been told by people finding them on a fb page that wellington region was 'too far north' but I guess its a lot wetter and colder than other areas of this lattitude.

Be prepared to put in the hours though (like with any hunting), just because a field looks ideal doesnt mean you'll find anything -
have a look through some of the previous UK liberty cap season threads and people will usually post some habitat shots as well as altitude.
They have similar fruiting conditions to subs, dropping below 10 at night but above freezing.
Sloping grassland, ideally short grass with those occasional tufty patches grazed by sheep seems to be a good shout.
slight preference for north facing Ive noticed here so far and a good couple hundred meters above sea level. (theoretically they can grow in any grassy area at any altitude but those are the criteria I've found to be a solid starting point)

they also look very different when wet and can be pretty difficult to spot/identify as you dont get as much of of that typical golden shading to the cap, theyre just kinda brown with lighter tips but once youve got your hands on a few you'll get a feel for them.

@Littleman:  great tips, thanks!
Canterbury is a massive, mostly flat grass/paddock area, but not much above sea level...  I will go for a hike on the Port Hills & see what's around!

Haha same here. I've done them a few times and you have to respect the mushroom. Don't know what type of rollercoaster you got on till you get up the top and look over the otherside, being on the haunted house roller coaster house is never fun.

Any one else on mushrooms been on a trip, where you keep being asked "Do you see?", "I don't think he gets it?"

PSILOCYBIN MUSHROOMS OF NEW ZEALAND

(Not much is known about the psilocybin containing Gymnopilus mushrooms in NZ, they are not well enough documented to say for certain.
Gymnopilus junonius is here, but does not contain psilocybin apparently!)

- Inocybe calamistratoides
(Probably contains psilocybin, but being Incoybe, may also probably poison you!)

- Panaeolopsis nirimbii

- Panaeolus cinctulus
- Panaeolus olivaceus

- Pluteus velutinornatus

- Psilocybe alutacea
- Psilocybe angluospora
- Psilocybe aucklandiae
- Psilocybe fimetaria
- Psilocybe makarorae
- Psilocybe semilanceata
- Psilocybe subaeruginosa
(Other members of section Cyanescens, such as Psilocybe cyanescens and Psilocybe allenii have also been reported to occur here apparently!)
- Psilocybe 'subsecotioides'
- Psilocybe tasmaniana
- Psilocybe weraroa

If you have the ones that kill you, that would be good as well. I've seen only One Death Cap (Amanita) But I have seen Galerinas growing on rotten trunks
