Anyone else paying much attention to the fruit cycle of the (so called) subsecotioides?
Parachute caps, (though we called them 'elephants feet' when we discovered them for ourselves) by my observations, those slimy grey subsecotioides () appear to endure staving off rot, by orders of magnitude longer than the more commonly known psilocybes. They are easily able to persist for weeks on into months, with favorable conditions they will continue swelling to impressive sized specimens.
I'd have suggested the name Psilocybe Proboscidea, drawing reference not only to the visual appearance of these, the leathery toughness and comparative longevity invoke elephantine impressions, but if you ever handled one of these things, you'll know EXACTLY what I mean.
Anyway, what I'm really trying to say is, Harvest time for subseco's

I speak for everyone here when I say...
Was there any woodchips in the area surrounding the roo dung subs?????
No woodchips, but it was in a cleared pine forest so there would have been pine debris/mulch in the soil. However only grass, soil and dung were visible. This was 2005, hence the small photo and im working off memory here.

There would have to be because they are not coprophilic.

How are they growing in the yard? On bark or through the grass? Lucky you. Do you water them every day?
Are you going to put a plastic container with holes over it to create a high humidity environment?

Sterile subs look so cool...

I put yesterdays harvest and this mornings harvest together in the dehydrator just now to dry.

I noticed that I had mistaken a tasmaniana for a subaeruginosa, just realized it was a tasmaniana as I was putting my harvest of what I though were exclusively subaeruginosa to dry...
Psilocybe tasmanaiana

Notice that only the margin and stipe base bruise blue. These things don't bruise as blue as other species, they are light bruisers.

I started hunting when I was in high school in late 2014 and have been at it each year since then.
I started hunting in 1990 it was a lot different back then, late night missions to Tauranga until we discovered some of Auckland's pine plantations. I took a long break (around 20 years) but have been enjoying this season even if from what I can gather it's been pretty shit.

I'm pretty obsessed with psilocybes.
I had to take a break from everything. However I’m very interested now in the therapeutic effects of psilocybes/psychedelics. And I have to say been feeling a little obsessed myself. The thrill of the hunt. Hopefully we’ll see a day we’re they’re decriminalized in NZ.

That's the realest shit I've ever heard you say Rog. Unfortunately being on psilocybin scares the shit out of me. Even after taking mushrooms 30-40 times I don't know if I've ever truly enjoyed it. I continue to hunt them because I'm awe-struck by their beauty.

How can you tell they are sterile from the look of them? I have some that look exactly the same, that make spore prints... I might take some pics...
