Kia Ora guys
Newcomer here. I’ve read through this season and last’s thread and compiled a basic list of what I need to do but I thought it’d be good to get some additional knowledge if anyone is happy to help out! I’m on Waiheke island, so lots of lush bush to look through. Does anyone know any good spots or general areas? So excited to dedicate my next week of hunting!

Hi blazer
If this is directed at my post, then I’ll fill out the situation a bit more for you. As some one in this thread has said before, sometimes you find the shrooms, sometimes they find you. I walked straight out of a meeting with the principal and to this exact spot, for a completely different reason than shroom hunting. These were found under an irrigation pipe in a roundabout, this pipe and the immediate area are now completely moved and this area replanted. However the remaining patches, some still poking out from under another part of the pipe, have been left undisturbed. If you are ever in the area.
Hope the rest of your weekend went well.

Hey Candid. . .
Firstly welcome!
If you read both entire threads, you would have read numerous times that detailed location information is not permitted on this site. . .
Most start at woodchip, with native forrest being the last and hardest areas. Learn what you are looking for first (meaning find the right mushrooms first!) before trying lush bush. . .
Once you have picked a few times, it becomes clear how to identify :-)

Unfortunately still yet to find a patch near home but got a solid haul outside of Auckland this weekend. Need to get out and put the boots on and find a something local otherwise my fuel bill is going to be huge.

Just found my first patch of the season, but unfortunately I wont be picking it because it's on someone else's property. Soooo tempted to grab it but somehow I don't think it would be bring very good karma haha

You could ask the owners if it would be okay to take some pictures of the mushrooms in their property. Then just pick them while you're at it. Looks more legit if you have a dedicated camera on you. I did this when I saw an enormous patch of subs in a neighbour's garden. I just knocked on their door with a camera around my neck and said I was a mycology student and asked if I could take some pictures of mushrooms on their property. They were cool with it and I got the best pictures of my hunting career out of it (4th photo in sig.)

I hear your neighbours like finding you; in a pair of undies, outside in pissing down rain, in their backyard, with a head torch on picking subs....
"I'M A MYCOLOGY STUDENT BRO!"
Good advice for all newcomers!

Yah the photographer angle is a good cover - my personal choice for these types of in plain sight operations (see my sig). If you wanted to take it to the next level make them a framed spore print - I enjoy the thought of someone having a psylocybe print on the wall none the wiser.

It was actually pretty hilarious. I was trying to muster the balls to go knock on their door but couldn't bring myself to do it. Ended up jumping their fence to take a few sneaky photos but when I saw how many there were I knew I was going to need more time. So I walked straight across their yard rather than up the path that goes to their door.. two of their young daughters saw me and started freaking out. Ended up all right but I did feel like a bit of a dick intruding on their property like that.. common sense goes out the window when a shroomer lays eyes on a patch like that I guess

Might just be me but has anyone found this year or maybe the last 2 or 3 harder and harder to find Subs, I might not be looking as hard as I used to but I used to find them by accident, maybe its the increased interest in them means more people are looking for them. Would be interested to see what others think
