Finally a half decent score! A bit broken up but I'll take it. Literally.

My advice is read the entirety of last years official thread.

If you don’t have the patience to read, ya won’t have the patience to hunt. . .

(In summary, wood chip beds, wood chip beds and wood chip beds. . .)

I followed the advice, and got up to page 24 of last year's thread. After over two weeks of searching, today I braved the rain here in Palmerston North, and discovered this little patch. I left many of the younger ones in the ground.

If I could give any advice to any newcomers, it would be that this is a formula. Follow it, and you will eventually succeed. If you've been following it to a tee but not finding anything, then try new spots.

I’d also say to newcomers, which I am to some degree, know what your hunting and it’s habitat but furthermore study what to do after you do find your first patch, I.e not picking it dry, picking open caps and in my case I fucked up because I hadn’t thought about what to do once I brought them home. Learn how to dry them and be prepared cause I sure wasn’t. 100% focused on the hunt. If you can get a dehydrator that’s the winner I’m told, I’m using the baked Epsom salt as a desiccant at the moment so hopefully I can get them cracker dry, not really in a spot to take any trips right now :mushroom2: if you bring home a massive haul you’re probably not gonna he able to eat them all so yeh be prepared.

That's a really good point. I hadn't even considered 'the next step' because I was honestly beginning to lose hope of ever finding anything active. I've got mine sitting in a muslin bag over the dehumidifier at the moment, to dry out as quickly as they can. Also got one cap making a spore print, just so I can photograph it as a souvineir of my first find. Might have to do the epsom salts trick next.

Like you, I'm not really in a position to trip at the moment. I got 45g fresh today, so there's more than one sitting's worth in there for me.

Hey glitchboi my advice for drying - (and I am also pretty new to this)- if you don't have a dehydrator, is to break them up so long as you're not too attached to them keeping their mushroom form. I break the caps up into small segments like a mandarin and split the stems longways get as much surface area as possible. I had a bit of trouble getting them cracker dry so once they're pretty dry from being in front of a fan for a day or two I get a 2L gopala yogurt container (anything airtight should do)  pour in some damp rid and cover with several layers of newspaper, mushrooms go on top. Really helps suck the last of the moisture out.

Nice finds by the way, I had a few weeks of searching with no luck to begin with, but once I got my eye in they kept popping out at me....

Thanks for the props. . . Just giving what I (usually) get here

Drying 101. . .
Psilocybin is stable enough to make tea @100°C so using heat to dry is fine below that.

Splitting mushrooms in halves reduces drying times dramatically. If you Don’t mind split dry mushrooms, hold your fruit by the base, split and pull. . . Should halve the cap when the split gets there. . .

If you have an oven, on baking paper (can be reused by hippies), on an oven tray, lay out mush (a few overlaps are fine) on 50°C, on ‘fan’ bake, with door open overnight. . .

Wait till cracker dry, store airtight, no sunlight, can last for years. . .
