@starting over, I like hunting in the bush, don't have to worry about people driving by Can take a while to find patches though, and they're usually quite spread out when you do find some.

Just stumbled across this little patch. They were quite dry considering the rain we’ve had over the weekend. Left all the pins hopefully they stay hidden.

Psilocybe weraroa grow nearly exclusively in native bush across the whole country from what I understand. Never found any myself but I've never looked in native bush. It's all much too dense around where I live.

I've found a new patch near home. They're quite different from the mushrooms at my other patches (most of which have been completely destroyed. One was covered in boot prints with most of the wood chip gone and a few babies remaining... guess I should try find some better hidden patches).
Anyway, do you think these are a different species or just phenotypic variation as a result of different environment (see pic of general patch)? Angulospora maybe? They're more delicate than the meaty subs I find elsewhere, and are a slightly paler colour. They still bruise blue, but not as starkly. Here's a pic of the only mature one I found today and a couple of babies. It doesn't seem a very prolific patch. I've found maybe 5 or 6 there since the rain started a week or so ago. Still, finding new patches is so satisfying, especially so close to home

I didn’t even know weraroa existed all those years ago when I was as a young picker.

Walked up and down my own street and found three small patches...

Wait for a real identifier to chime in, I reckon they're P.sub not P.angulospora

My advice is read the entirety of last years official thread.
If you don’t have the patience to read, ya won’t have the patience to hunt. . .
(In summary, wood chip beds, wood chip beds and wood chip beds. . .)

Finally a half decent score! A bit broken up but I'll take it. Literally.
