Wait is a sealed up lid+band better than a 1 piece plastic lid somehow? I moved away from metal to move away from rust

Generally if my shit is bruising blue at that stage, it ends up contaminating but I haven't had many jars look like that so my experience is limited

I've used plastic 1 piece lids with SFD's siliconed to the top for years without issue. Some people think the metal lids work better/provide a better seal but I have never had issues personally.

Strong possibility, as mentioned... but the bruising itself is not a contaminant, and I felt it an important distinction

So here is a cheeseball and pretzel container. This is second flush coming in. Pe6 clone. So I have a vent on top in the lid with one layer of MP. There are two bottom substrate level vents. Covered in 2 layers of MP.

Does anyone have stl files for 3D printing a jar filter? If not I am going to make one tonight but no sense reinventing the wheel.

This but silicone the lid to the band so it's one piece. Far and away best decision i've made in this hobby!
they make 1 piece metal lids with gaskets

That’s so cool. I figured they’d have better pinsets for something that size but it looks like they got them all maturing in sync. Now I’m curious if that’s the best time to harvest, cuz it’s a little earlier than I normally go for. They look like they’d be pretty big if they let them ride another couple days.
What’s the site? I can’t make out the .com or .ne or whatever.

Yes, it's for 3D printing, so, find someone with a 3D printer! I am away from home right now so I haven't printed it yet myself but I'm trying to kill time. My prints usually work though if you have your bed level and temps set right.
I'm going to print the top part in ABS and the bottom in TPU. All the 3D materials melt well above pressure cooker temperatures so I don't think it matters, but TPU is flexible and should work better for the barbed bottom part.
The files can be printed at 50% and a 1/2" drill bit will make the right size hole for the fitting.

Do you guys have any tricks for popping the lid open to knock up a jar??
Never had a problem with the instant pot but now with the real pc these things are glued on.
I seriously thought I was about to peel a fingernail off.
I use the edge of the band itself to push up on the edge off the lid to unseal it from the jar lip. Works well.

Old post but just now seeing it
I use a #7 scalpel handle without a blade as a lever and it comes off super easy, using jar threads as fulcrum. I sterilize it in bacticinerator

To anyone that has trouble getting a metal jar lid off sorry but 100% guarantee you are over tightening. If you don't overtighten all it takes is slight pressure from a finger. Look into canning to see how tight you should seal a metal lid.

Both of those will deform at PC temperatures. The other issue is that 3D printed stuff is porous.

I'm gonna slam a jar, 100% colonize, then it's G2G baby! Oats too dry, nothing happened! Where the hell did I get that idea! ( "I just let the oats dry overnight" )
11 April, 2020:Ok T4.2 wedges to Oat jar! Tossed the T4.2 and T4.1 (contam). Actually washed the plates. ( What a great feeling reusing plates ) 27 April, 2020:So, here's the dry Oat jars. Since one was inoculated with wedges and nothing happened. I added water to a second dry jar that was just waiting and re-pc'd it. Then LI'd both jars. at first the second jar (4/18) didn't look so good... then the first jar (4/11) went south! It looks like a black mold. Anyway, second jar could be succeeding... RW Grow Log
