he is also taking classes to build and wind his own pickups. he's already wired one of his handmade pickups into an older guitar and it sounds great.. but yes you are right!

I mostly play my squire strat as my daily driver cos it was the first guitar I ever got and it was from my father who passed away so anytime I have an itch to make something up it will always be on that guitar. Now when I just want to shred I play my dean Cadillac.

Yeah when my friend gave it to me and wouldn't accept money I thought she was dying. (In reality it had a broken potentiometer and said since I like playing way more than her then if I can fix it then I can have it.....so I fixed it lol)
Edit: 2 broken potentiometers (the goldish ones)

Here's is the strat
So...yeah that little spot by the output Jack is why I will never play guitar while tripping ever again lol(I completely missed the screw trying to fix something on the inside while tripping )
Edit: in retrospect I dont think anything even needed to be fixed I just thought the output jack was loose or something.....

my brother has like 13 or 14 guitars now. a few years back he found a rare misprint DIMEBAG DARRELL guitar at the guitar center in Sacramento, CA. the misprint reads DIMEBAG DARBELL lol the staff had no idea. he bought it for $120.

Very nice. Ive been playing and working on guitars for 20 years. I have an old Ibanez RG that Ive been working on rebuilding intermittently for years. Put a quilt maple top on, added body, fretboard, and headstock binding, put new inlays in, all kinds of shit. I pull it out once every couple years and do a little work to it. Its an ongoing project lol.
Ive also got a Gibson Les Paul Traditional, a Gibson SG Future Tribute, and a Charvel San Dimas Pro Mod I play on when I get the chance.

Just taught myself. I just always liked working on guitars. Bought a bunch of tools from Stew Mac to do set ups and fret work and nuts and shit. Used to have advertise on craigslist for set up and fret work, and was getting a little money doing that as a little side hustle lol.
Of course theres pics lol. I love my guitars. I have pics of almost every guitar Ive owned over the years, which is probably around 20ish. I just last year sold off half of the collection I had. My Schecter Platinum C1 FR, Ibanez AM73 335 style, LTD EC-1000, and my Fender American Standard Strat from 98. Ill have to snap some of the work in progress Ibanez tomorrow, dont have any of those on hand.

You could probably do it somehow. Dry it and encase it in epoxy resin or something. It would probably sound like shit though lol. Mycelium would dampen the vibrations heavily I would think. But it doesnt stop people from making guitars out of weird stuff. Ive seen some made from colored pencils, acrylic, Legos, old electronics, cardboard, and even ramen noodles and tortilla chips lol.

What's the difference between all the guitars in this thread? I don't play guitar and I always wondered, is there that big of a difference in the sound they make? Also, isn't the amp the real hero when it comes to sound?

It's all in how you finger it
Edit: real answer, yes there is difference in sound between all the guitars. For example: the back of the 12 string ovation I posted is made of completely different material than all the other guitars posted which makes it sound completely different. Also, different types and sizes of strings will produce various sounds.
Double edit: you can also get super funky with accessories like a slide and the jellyfish pick

its mostly just a matter of preference and opinion.
different wood types have different densities and therefore different measures of resonance.
body shape and size are also both considered when buying a guitar.
the strings come in different sizes which gives off different tones.
the pickups in an electric can be higher or lower wattage and can be replaced for a more preferred sound.
of course the top tier guitars are generally better quality instruments, but that doesnt mean the lower end guitars are not worth playing.
guitar amplifiers aslo greatly vary in size, shape, wattage, configuration, etc.
you really have to just sit down and try a few out to know whats comfortable for you (the player)

also, most people i know who play guitar usually begin by imitating their favorite band or artist. many people will buy a Fender Stratocaster because it is the preferred guitar of many great players. or they might instinctively go for a B.C. Rich because they exclusively listen to heavy metal and want to emulate that sound.
there certainly are scientific factors but it really comes down to opinions on what you like and/or dont like.

yes and not to mention the abundance of effects pedals. you will rarely find a professional guitarist playing without at least one.

I'm pretty sure the luthier did not make the right cut angle on my nut an that's why my guitar keeps falling out of tune.
In order to fix it I have to file the ebony nut. Not much but I have to make be the cut angle a little sharper.

Try some graphite filings or some graphite lubricant. For string contact points, I use Stew Macs graphite paste mixed with a couple drops of some metal lubricant. Keeps the nut and saddles slick.
If the nut was cut wrong, and you have tuning problems, then the nut slots were probably cut too deep. Youll either have to replace the nut or fill and then re-cut the slots.

thats the lame thing, its an ebony nut. i need to see if i can cut it and if not fill it then re cut. He was most likly conservative with it because it is ebony aftert all. fingers crossed.

Ebony, as in wood? Is it a classical guitar? Usually dont see wood nuts on anything other than classical. You can use some ebony dust and super glue to fill the slots if you need to, and then re-cut. Usually when you get tuning problems from the nut, its because the slots are too deep and narrow, so they get pinched in there when bending or whatever and get thrown out of tune.

Holy cow, that thing is awesome. It's definitely the next piece of equipment I'm gonna pick up.
I got this coming on Monday so I'll have to wait a bit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006NL5SM?pf_rd_r=ZB39F9NRBF01H1MGRFEA&pf_rd_p=edaba0ee-c2fe-4124-9f5d-b31d6b1bfbee
Boss sure does have some good sounding gear. This is my main FX board

I use this to record backing tracks on. Mostly Ween covers with all tracks except vocals and use it to jam along with either by myself or with my nephew

That piano FX pedal will work great for what I do..can't wait

I've got a version of Tear for Eddie almost done but I haven't tried to figure out how to transfer it to something else yet. Maybe sometime I'll get that far
Also did, She Fucks Me, Spinal Meningitis, Cold Blows the Wind, Help My Scrape the Mucus off my Brain, Happy Colored Marbles, Buckingham Green, and I'm working on Buenos Tardes Amigo. Only Cold Blows has vocals because they're mostly for playing and singing along with, kinda like homemade karaoke
