HDR10 ? 1

Hello
Just wondering if anyone that has a tv/console capable with HDR10 mode has ever tried disabling it in the system display settings (on their console & tv)?
Basically I've had hdr10 mode turned on since I got my xbox one x just over a year ago. So due to a recent post in science & technology about using a tv for a monitor I decided to review my 4k settings on the console & tv. The game I used to test the change the settings in the hope of having the best setting is Red Dead Redemption 2.
Basically I have found that with hdr10 mode on, I was unable to turn on game mode on tv, and that as the game was loading the hdr10 mode would enable itself and the screen would change and almost like a filter applied to the display would cause the screen display to slightly darken and the color range would change too changing how the game looked on my tv as the game loaded.
Long story short, I decided to disable hdr10 mode in the Xbox settings and wanted to see if things looked better or worse using game mode instead. Well as the game loads, there's now no change in the display as it loads up (stays bright and colorful). so what I have instead is a brighter more colourful looking game that in my opinion looks better then using hdr10 mode. So I'm not turning that setting on anymore, and just wanted to suggest to those who have a console and tv that supports hdr10 mode to turn it off and just use the game mode instead, in my opinion it looks better with it off.
If anyone want to try this, give it a go and let me know if you agree or not that it's better to turn hdr10 mode off.
thank you

We had awfull experiences playing some dark terror games from pc at the tv using HDR.
We also played Death Stranding before with PS4 HDR and without and it just had a slight more color (the game is not colorfull at all).
To be honest, we disabled it by default in everygame now.
We play in a Samsung QLED of 65"

Oh interesting! My husband and I have our TVs and consoles (also Xbox ones) sitting side-by-side, and his screen is always darker, and harder to see details when we get into dark areas of games. I'll have to check and see if maybe he's having an HDR10 situation.
We also loaded a game up (I can't quite remember which one, I think it was one of the Gears of War games?) and it gave us the options to make sure everything fit in the screen, and while I was able to interact with the options on my screen and console, he was not- so he played the game with portions of his HUD off-screeen.

Hello Mudbrain
I don't think that HDR10 would affect the sizing of the screen. I think you need to look at the settings of both the tv and xbox.
I'd recommend check tv settings first, mainly the aspect ratio settings.
I hope that helps

Hey Blessed, yeah we went back through all kinds of settings trying to figure out what's going on with his screen (and color) configuration. Honestly it was more of a long shot/hope that it would have SOME sort of impact on whatever is going on with his set-up. At this point I'm thinking it's possessed by a ghost-witch or something because that makes as much sense as anything else!

Blessed, whoa whoa whoa, let's not be hasty! While it would probably help (maybe?) narrow down what's up with my husband's set up, it could ALSO somehow transfer his weird electronics curse to me! I mean, it's one thing to marry someone, it's a whole 'nother thing to let them touch your electronics!
(Seriously, his electronics curse is real though!)

Sounds like you need to either call the local electrician, or the local priest?

*laughs*
"You're gonna wanna get an old electrician and a young electrician..."
But yeah, we've gone through 4 or 5 electricians in the past 15 years here, and may actually have to give a priest a serious consideration.
