Opinions on my cake

Hello friends, I was hoping to get an opinion on our brf grain jars. This is our first time and we've had some cruddy luck so far, 3 of 4 jars somehow got fruit-fly maggots. We think through the polyfil hole, a wide mouth mason jar lid that I drilled a hole into. I'm getting lids with self-healing ports so this isn't an issue for future grows.
I have 1 cake not infected by maggots and it was growing nice and healthy, but it seems like progress has come to a halt. I notice maybe a tiny bit of mycelium growth here and there, but it feels like this process is going slower than I've read.
Using ryeberry grain which was soaked and boiled, then put in 32oz wide mouth mason jars with polyfil hole. Pressured cooked for 2 hours and allowed to cool inside cooker overnight. We were very thorough in our sanitation. Spore syringes purchased from a shroomery sponsored vendor.
The only places I see where we could have gone wrong are A) lids were inadequate, B) maybe allowing to cool inside pressure cooker after sterilization C) using such large mason jars.
Its been 2 weeks since inoculation. Judging by the pictures, should I anticipate more growth? Should I start over? Any advice on my process?
Thank you

Spore syringes are dirty with bacteria often, that's probably why working with agar is a necessity to be able to grow at a predictable rate, meaning you'd need to work with live agar cultures. Depending on how dirty your spore solution or sterile technique is your grain will most likely often be a little sketchy, but can definitely work its just that I don't like to gamble in this hobby, I like the odds to be created by me and my work not to how dirty some spore solution is. Hope that helps

Looks bacterial. I would start over. As mentioned, don't inject spore syringe solution onto grains. Not good practice. Gotta use agar.

There’s nothing you can do at that stage to help anything that’s happening. Your poly either wasn’t tight enough or you didn’t properly sterilize those jars. They also look a lil wet. Brf is brown rice flower, which you wouldn’t be using wth grains.
No one wants to just get a link when they have a problem but this has everything you need to know about to do it right and efficiently. And you’ll up your mushroom lingo

Don't waste your money on premade lids. Get a ½" step bit and drill your own holes. Step bits make the absolute cleanest lid holes IME. 10 bucks for 100 self healing injection ports on amazon. You'll save a shitload of money. Use micropore tape instead of polyfil. I dont like fussing with that shit.

There's some yucky looking stuff going on. I would snatch out a few colonized pieces of grain to put on agar and transfer until you have clean cultures before trying again. That way you don't have to totally start over and you know your source will be free from contamination.

Thanks for all the opinions guys. Looks like I'll need to rethink my process and do some research on agar (first I've heard of it, somehow).
