Ditch the fan. And that hygrometer. Whys the bottom half of the tub black? You don't need gloves on to touch a cake lol it won't hurt you

If you still have fresh mushrooms that aren’t covered in mold you should make up an agar plate, or even a ghetto plate, and clone one of them. While it’s growing you can get some proper stuff going to do grains to bulk. Cakes to bulk can work sometimes but it’s really not the way.

Hello bodhisattva,
thank you for your feedback.
- I used gloves to avoid contamination.
- Without hygrometer how you control the humidity?
- The fan is actually taking air out and fresh air enters from the filters. It was an idea in order to minimise opening the lid.
- The bottom is black in order to avoid mushrooms to grow from the sides.
Not sure what of the above makes sense, but definitely I need to improve the prosess to get better results.
Thanks

Opening the lid won’t hurt, I know a lot of other sites say it will. The first tek I ever read insisted if you opened the lid to peek at it before 10 days was up you might as well throw it out.
But your tub looks a little dry and probably had bacterial spawn unless you added a huge top layer.
That’s usually why it pins without colonizing everything.

1. Its a fully colonized cake. You could spit on it. You don't need to protect it anymore
2. You look at your grow and mist if it needs it.
3. The stuffed holes are not for filtration they're to regulate humidity. The fan doesn't help
4. Light doesn't cause side pins

Hi Chef,
yes it would be great, but I'm not ready to make agar plate. Missing the ingredients. I still have some spores so I am going to start all over again as soon as I figure out how to improve the process.
Thank you

You can make a paste with your brf and put a layer in the bottom of a jar then sterilize it and use that to clone same as agar.
Looks like sterile technique might need some work though.
Clones are the shit most of the time.

Also, no need to minimize opening the lid. If you could manage to keep the lid off the entire time that would be best but most people have a job and don't want to mist it 4+ times a day

Hi A.k.a,
As new to this, I followed the instructions I found available online. That's why the black paint also.
The cocos substrate was sterilised in the oven in its compressed form and then I expanded it by purring boiling water. So, not sure for the origin of the contamination.
The tub might look dry on the top (I reduced the humidity the last days), but now that I digged, it was wet at the bottom.
Thank you for your feedback

Contamination comes from the spawn in 99% of the cases. You don't need to bake your coir. It's been baked in the factory anyways and the main reason why it's used is because you can leave it in open air and nothing will start growing on it.
It was 99% an issue with your spawn, especially if you started with a syringe.

Hi Poisoned,
everything looked alright in the jars, pure white everywhere and I followed careful sterilisation...
I just run out of... hmm... vermiculite, so I used tyvek instead. But anyway, if the jars were contaminated, wouldn't be visible from the jar?
Thanks

Not necessarily. Sometimes it shows, sometimes it's hiding somewhere.
