With all this heat I had to go out again today so find what I could before the mushrooms dried up. Glad I did. I found aproximately another 200 grams in about 40 mins in one my park areas. I took some photos... The last photo is my favorite....

Dont use rain as your guide. Psilocybe subaeruginosa can get enough moisture from good consistent morning dews alone. Some dryer places it seems do need rain to bring on flushes. But my advice is to go looking regardless, you may get a pleasant surprise.
In Tasmania, for example, you dont want rain, as it usually ruins them, they become waterlogged, become bacterial and grubs increase.

Hey everyone,
Happy to be back for another season of hunting! Already finding a few good smaller patches, yet to check my old ones. I'm also wanting to go a little further out to the mountains this year...
Here's some shots from the finds so far (eastern suburbs);

This last patch was pretty interesting, most of the mushrooms had semi-dried quite nicely and were well protected by a bunch of fallen branches. I like this photo.

Happy hunting everyone! Keep the great finds and photos up

I'm finding every kind of mushroom BUT subs, it's driving me nuts!! It's meant to cool down and rain a lot this week, so maybe, but jeez. Just one, that's all I want!

Didn't go for a hunt today but found some inactives on my walk that were worth taking a photo of.
Found these guys either side of a tree.

And also found some baby A. muscaria but I'm not having much luck uploading their photos.

Anyone remember my post from last year where they were growing along an asphalt road? They made it across to the other side..

there was a cool wavy capped one too but I picked it before thinking of taking photos.

A question in regards to hunting: can subs pop up overnight given low temps and rain? How frequently can you check the same spot, what sort of gap should you leave inbetween hunts?

I had the highway patrol police drive straight past me 2 - 3 days ago when I was hunting with someone 30 or so minutes drive from Melbourne city. They just drove past us slowly and didn't ask any questions.
If I were collecting Psilocybe subaeruginosa mushrooms and got picked up by the police, I wouldn't be the least bit concerned because (if I remember correctly from my Legal Studies class I took at high school) it is possible to go through the courts and get the law changed. So that's what I'd do. The way I see it, it's a lot like if some kind of really healthy vegetable were illegal, it would only be a matter of time before it's made legal....

That's interesting, is there any more information on that?

Welcome to the Shroomery
On the High Court website it says
"The High Court is the highest court in the Australian judicial system. It was established in 1901 by Section 71 of the Constitution. The functions of the High Court are to interpret and apply the law of Australia; to decide cases of special federal significance including challenges to the constitutional validity of laws and to hear appeals, by special leave, from Federal, State and Territory courts."
Remembering back to the Legal Studies class I took 10 years ago, if you have to go to court you can say that you've done nothing wrong and that the law needs to be changed. If the judge/magistrate agrees you'll be hand-balled a higher court, the process repeats until you end up in the High Court where there will be an opportunity to change the law. If this happens, be sure to bring plenty of studies with you supporting your what you're saying and most importantly talk without fear.
I could go on and on but I'm typing this up from my phone and it's quite tiring so I'll add to this later

It's been a few years since I've been out picking so imagine how surprised I was to find all these in my own garden. Pins popping up everywhere. It's now a game to beat the slugs but still wait until they're big enough to drop their spores.

Hmm thats really interesting. I wonder if anyone has actually tried having the laws changed?
Also how many people actually get picked up for picking mushrooms? I'm super paranoid but wonder how trained the police are in even knowing about different mushrooms?

I do want to gather up some quality information before making posts going by my memory of I class I took 10 years ago juuust in case I'm a little bit off.
I have made submissions to the Victorian and Australian Law Reform Commission only to get emailed back saying they only take suggestions for law reform on certain laws they want changeged.
From what people have told me, more often that not, for first, even second drug "offences" people are given a caution if they only had a relatively small amount of illicit drugs on them for their own personal use. I can imagine this being the case for psilocybin mushrooms.

Went for my first hunt today, but yielded no active mushrooms. Trying not to get my hopes up because I imagine mushrooms near the city/inner suburbs are not property.
