Interesting approach. I have a deep affinity my scalpel but I appreciate folks who think outside the bun. I'll read through it thoroughly later on. π»

Itβd be cool if the transfer tissue was picked up with each punch like a hole puncher (probably still have to flip it over heh) and there was a plunger that clicked into place, releasing a transfer at a time like a mechanical pencil... you could do like 20 transfers in like 5 minutes. Damn you, physics!!

There's something similar that's a biopsy tool but they are disposable and probably be hard to sterilize so would get expensive quick.

Yeah I was thinking that it might work if the punch didn't have the hole on the side.
I keep saying D3, do something with one of those stainless steel straws. I think Yeti makes them. This is definitely a game changer!

Ok so this is what I came up with. I haven't used it yet. The grip off the ink pen should work as a insulator. I pushed both in half way. The punch is 3/16 matched with back of ink pen and gripper off the ink pen.

It's pretty stable with just the gripper connection . Once I use it and see how it acts I'll decide if I use electrical tape or not.

Nice work! Have you also done it it a SAB? I would think it wouldn't work as contams would drop from your gloves, and I imagine that your FH prevents that by pushing the potential contams towards you instead of towards the petri.

I started with it in a SAB never had issues, just have to be mindful of hand placement and dish /lid angles.

One thing I learned is the tool has to be cooled down good or it dont cut it it melts it. Duh. No as easy as you make it look.
Beautiful work

Yea, that's why I use the cooling plate. Takes a little longer to cool down than a scalpel. Also be careful no to overheat in the first place. I flame into the side hole and out the tip instead of into front of tip for the majority that way heat not blowing toward your hand.

Was just sent a picture of my new agar punch. Really excited, should be here in the next week or so. Can't wait to give it a try. Hopefully it works as well or better than my leather punch.

Beautiful tool and a great TEK.
My recent batch of plates had some bubbles. I had set sous vide to 120 and everything poured fine, but I wonder if it was too close to gelling temp or perhaps I swirled too much before the pour or something. Have you ever had trouble with bubbles?
In any case pulled those supplies into my cart, thanks for doing the homework on which brands make the clearest plates! Love the coloring too

Yes, I try to avoid shaking and swirling after PC as it will cause bubbles. Iβd probably set the sous vide a little warmer as like you said. It would start to gel up on you toward the last few plates. I shoot for around 130f
I also avoid swirling after pc as any solids will have settled to the bottom of the media bottle and I leave the last 1/8β or so in the bottle to prevent that sediment if any from pouring into my plates.
