Pins Glorious Pins! Seeking Advice! * 1

What a JOY!

First grow, and seeing the first pins appear is such a magical feeling. As magical as journeying with them..Can't wait to dry and eat them!

Have been following Bod's easy AF TEK to the T, and it works great. Big thanks to shroomery forums!

Tub A - PE MS Syringe -> Agar -> A2A -> Master Spawn -> G2G 5QT -> Coir substrate with 1/8" coir casing. Mixed on 04/11, Pinned 04/23.

Tub B - PE MS Syringe -> Agar -> A2A -> Master Spawn -> G2G 5QT -> Coir substrate with 1/8" coir casing. Mixed 04/11, Pinned 04/22

This chunky pin looks like an upside down heart!

Both tubs had some Yellowing (secondary metabolites) in the corners for some reason. Fighting off contam or just digesting the casing layer?

Is it normal for pins to form unevenly? I've seen pictures of Bodhisatta's unmodified monotubs, and some on the forums, and they look like they pin uniformly, so beautifully. What can I improve on to get flushes like that?

I have been misting roughly once or twice a day to improve FAE, but I have read in some threads that once the fruits get to about an inch, I should stop misting, and start bottom watering if necessary?

Thoughts, and suggestions?

FAE, and 12/12 lighting is supposed to help the fruits grow well, and strong from there on forth, yes?

Lastly, what is the criteria for judging which fruits are the best to clone? I'm assuming the speed of growth, size and shape of fruit?

I'm planning to clone a few specimens, and Agar transfer until I'm certain it's clean, and store those as slants, and use them for more grows in the future!

🙏🙏🙏☸️🍄❤️

looking like a great grow so far. congrats!

As far as pin sets go, apart from having proper environmental conditions, ive noticed it does tend to vary from tub to tub and mostly genetic. Most tubs i do get great pinsets but i still have some though fruit great but no where near a forest, even though every tub is prepared the same.

Those PE fruit will puff up and grow pretty big so by the end of the grow the tub will look a lot fuller.

As far as cloning goes, thats also kinda a crap shoot as well. Id pick several fruits you like and clone each one, being sure to label all successive transfers/plates and making a backup plate/slant of each. Qualities you could look for are largest fruit, biggest cluster, first to mature, etc. Grow each one out and see how they do. Not every clone you take is worth keeping.

All in all great job though

Thank you Thank you! True joy to be able to see the effort translated into something beautifully growing, and soon, to be consumed!

Can't wait, first time trying PE too!

Guess genetics and the randomness does make the grows all the more interesting.

I assume isolating to mono culture is one way to isolate genetics, so once you hit on a great mono, you can keep growing that isolate 'endlessly'?

Appreciate the tip about the cloning process.

Can't wait to keep exploring and learning more through the mushrooms wisdom!

There are more pins coming, and they look so sexy now those PE's!

:eek::crazy2:

Nice job!  Your pinning strategy seems to be working well.  A lot of ppl end up with just blobs when they use a thin casing of CV and that’s really fast for PE :thumbup:

PE definitely balloon up and they’re usually solid all the way through

This:

If you’re going to do PE consistently (I highly recommend it—especially with your success so far), you should check out this thread if you haven’t already

Thank you!

I was super surprised to see pins that early, as I had read about the slower growth, and expected them to take longer to pin.

I used 5QT jars, pretty full and well colonized spawn, mixed with 1 brick (650G) Coir. Maybe the Spawn to Sub ratio was pretty equal, so they colonized real quick?

I am crossing my fingers, toes, and eyes, that they balloon up, and grow thick, tall, and erect! :tongue:

4 days since first pin.

Looking forward to a wonderful trip eating them soon..my dehydrator is waiting, and so am I..
