When to case?

I have some shoeboxes of cubensis A-2-G to H-poo nearing 100% when should I case? How long should I PC the casing? All I have atm is vermiculite.

Nobody?
I've never cased anything I have ever grown. I always fruited my tubs and cakes without a casing layer. So I don't really have any experience with it.

I too have been confused about casing layers. I gather that cubes don't require one but it may be useful if you are in a very dry environment. Some people appear to apply the casing right away and others appear to wait until their tubs are colonized. Personally, I've given up on a casing layer. When I add my spawn to the substrate, I just put a layer of coir over it.

I don't think you need one.

I've never noticed a difference between using a top layer and not I've done it both ways at the same time with the same clone and got almost the same dry weight from each tub so I stopped using one.

From my studies I have come to understand the casing layer as a 1in -1 1/2in layer of coir/vermiculite over the top of your myc which aides in keeping the myc moist when additional FAE is introduced to induce fruiting. If you live in a desert climate like myself you may want to use one even if cubes don't need it. Also I have seen some amazing fruits from casing my monotubs.

I just cased my AA+ on Black Oil Sunflower Seeds mixed with oak mulch after full colonization when the sub started to shrink before pinning.
Cased that shit with Jiffy Mix.

Looks like we have some conflicting information here.
Also I still have the prints you sent me filthyknees I'm just working with some GT right now. I started some pans to so I'm working with those. It's kinda overwhelming but I'll get to them eventually. I'll do a giveaway when my current tub finishes in your honor and everyone else that helped me out.

SO here's where the confusion lies. I add a layer of vermiculite/coir at spawn which gets colonized completely (this is the layer he's referring to) and then you can also add another 1in layer after fully colonized which I see people do and I have done before but after the first or second flush.

Regular cubes don’t need a casing, PE would be the only recommended exception to avoid blobbing in the first flush.
Personally I’ve done all ways, case, top layer at spawn, and uncased. I prefer a top layer at spawning, just seems to give the best pin set and cleanest harvest in my setup. Your results may vary, but casing once it’s colonized delays pinning I think.

I did a little test on a spent tub about 4 days back and it actually induced another flush, this will be the 4th flush and these pics aren't updated, the clusters its putting off I expect will be glorious.

I will let this one fruit out and then start casing when I spawn I trust filthyknees and synkyd.

Wow, you can really tell a difference looking at pastywhites clone and how it did without a casing and then how it performs with one. I think that has settled the debate right there.
Thanks filthyknees

Casing at spawn only creates another layer to colonize. If your casing with CVG you are adding another layer of non nutrious sub to your already mixed sub. Casing at spawn IMO is top layering.
Casing at fruiting or full colonization is to help induce evaporation of the casing layer and not the sub.
You want your casing to slowly dry not your substrate. But these are just my opinions and I agree cubes do not need a casing layer. I just did it for fun.

When I do case I case once the tub knots up or when a tub is taking too long to knot and i want to minimize drying and the frequency of misting.
